Opera Mini 7.0 Update 1 for Symbian Released, Fixes Re-connection Issue and Other Bugs

Opera Mini 7 Update 1 for Symbian

Opera Software released an updated version of Opera Mini 7.0 for Symbian last week. It’s dubbed “Opera Mini 7.0 Update 1 for Symbian” or version 7.0.30697 and includes bug fixes and performance enhancements but no new features. According to Opera the changes in this version are:

  • Fixed problem with broken text on web pages
  • Fixed network re-connection issues
  • Improved scrolling performance on S60 v3.x keypad devices
  • Improved file type detection for downloads
  • Opera Smart Page language will now always follow browser localization
  • Various bug- and stability fixes

I was well aware of network re-connection issue bug, which was quite annoying. Opera Mini would refuse to load any pages after switching from cellular data to Wi-Fi or vice versa or after the browser had been idle for a while. The only way to get it working again was to close and reopen Opera Mini. I was unable to trigger the bug in the latest version, so it looks like it is fixed.

I installed the new release as an upgrade over the previous 7.0.29974 version on my Nokia N8 running Belle. The upgrade preserved all my previous bookmarks, settings and speed dials. I didn’t have any saved pages and I don’t use Opera’s built in RSS reader so I can’t say whether feeds and saved pages are kept or not.

Opera Mini 7.0 for Symbian version can be downloaded from m.opera.com (mobile) or www.opera.com/mobile/download/ (PC). It runs on Nokia Anna and Belle and Symbian S60 2nd, 3rd and 5th edition devices.
