Entertainment/eBooks

Manybooks Home PageManybooks (mnybks.net) This mobile version of Manybooks.net lets you download any of the 16,000+ free eBooks on the Manybooks.net site as either a self executing Java .jar file or in MobiPocket Reader format. Both wml and html phones are supported and there’s a list of recommended books and search by author or title. The Java reader is mjBook which is as powerful as many dedicated book readers with bookmarks, optional auto scroll and text search. One problem for many phones is that the .jar files can be very large, as big as 400 KB. Few phones can load such a large Java executable. You can download the mjBook creator and use it to create your own books from any text file. The creator has an option to automatically split books into smaller separate jars – too bad Manybooks.net doesn’t offer that option.

30 Boxes calendar30 Boxes (m.30boxes.com) Mobile interface to the popular 30boxes.com online calendar application. View and edit your 30boxes calendar and to-do list from your phone. You have to sign up on the 30boxes.net PC site. Nice site but their are a couple of issues. Your login is your email address – hard to type on a phone, an alpha login ID is more mobile friendly. Logging into the mobile site with Opera Mini fails with “Too many redirects”.

Gubb (gubb.net/m) Gubb’s an online list application that can be used for to-do lists, shopping lists, home inventory or any thing else you want to store in a list with or without do dates. You have to sign up on Gubb’s PC site first but other than that the mobile version duplicates all the functionality of the PC one – adding deleting and modifying lists and items.

Hack in the Box Home pageMobleo (mobile.mobleo.net) now supports Opera Mini bookmarklets. I reviewed Mobleo a while back and I really liked the site, a del.icio.us-like site for tagging and sharing your mobile bookmarks. At that time using an Opera Mini bookmarklet to tag the current site on Mobleo didn’t work – but now it does. Here’s the bookmarklet: Save to Mobleo. The easiest way to get the bookmarklet into your copy of Opera Mini is to visit my Opera Mini bookmarklets page (o.yeswap.com) and follow the instructions.

Technology

Hack in The Box (hackinthebox.org/avantgo/) Short news items related to computer and internet security. Not the best mobile design, All items are on a single page which is only 11 KB but requires excessive scrolling. Each item has a link to it’s source which are news and tech PC web sites.
