Nexus One Brings PC Pricing Model to Phones

Google’s Nexus One launch this week was interesting for several reasons, the phone’s much faster processor, OLED screen and a form factor resembling the iPhone’s have led it to be dubbed an “iPhone Killer”.  Much is also being made of the fact that Google is now selling phones directly to consumers. But that’s  hardly revolutionary, Nokia and Sony Ericsson have long been more than willing to sell you a phone from their websites. And unlocked phones are available from Amazon … Continue reading

Fone Frenzy – Independent Mobile News and Reviews

I recently discovered Fone Frenzy via tankgrl who’s latest “Talking with tnkgrl” video podcast features the site’s Tony Peric as co-host. Fone Frenzy is a a general mobile news and reviews site something like MobileCrunch, IntoMobile or Engadget Mobile. The difference is that Fone Frenzy is, as far as I can tell, the work of  just two guys, Tony and Daniel Rodriguez. They are incredibly knowledgeable mobile technology fanatics who give their own personal, unbiased opinions on the latest mobile … Continue reading

Open attitude – Advocating Unlocked Phones and Free Software

Serial blogger, social networking gadfly, actor and director Andrew Currie, has “gone pro” with a new blog, Open Attitude covering some of my favorite topics; “Fair use, free software, unlocked phones and other things that are open.” The new site looks great and Andrew is off to a running start with a flurry of posts on desktop Linux, unlocked phones, file sharing, copyleft, Creative Commons and more.  Andrew’s goal is to spread the open gospel and it seems to be  … Continue reading

Bolt Browser Updated to 1.62

The Google  Nexus One phone wasn’t the only mobile product released today. According to a post on the Bolt Forum, “BOLT 1.62 was released today. This is a routine upgrade featuring behind-the-scenes improvements that you probably won’t notice on the surface, but you should still upgrade. You will be prompted to upgrade the next time you launch BOLT.” One reason to upgrade is that until you do, the browser will continue to prompt you to upgrade every time you start … Continue reading

MacWorld.com For Mobiles

I just discovered that Macworld, the biggest Apple specific print magazine, has a mobile version of their Macworld.com website. Actually there are two mobile versions; one for iPhones, Palm WebOS and Android phones and a different one for everyone else. The “middleweb”/iPhone version has the polished look of a typical iPhone Web App and includes the images and videos from the desktop site. When you follow a deep link from another site with a supported device, the mobile version of … Continue reading
