Found on the Mobile Web is a weekly WAP Review feature listing newly added and updated sites on the YesWAP.com mobile portal and WapReview mobile site directory. With these latest additions the directory and portal now list 2311 mobile sites.

m.reddit.com is the legacy mobile version with a front page size under 20 KB and no JavaScript dependencies. It's a read only view of all of Reddit's items, "Other Reddits" (subject matter categories) and comments.

i.reddit.com is Reddit's AJAXy new "Touch Web" version that requires JavaScript and a browser that can handle 200 KB pages. Compared with the legacy version it offers more eye candy and the ability to log in to post items and leave comments.

Mimvi Search mimvi.com Mobile app (and webapp) search. Find apps in the iTunes app store, Android Market or BlackBerry App World. The iOS and BlackBerry results have links to the apps in iTunes or App World, but inexplicably there are no download links for the Android apps. There's also a "Webapps" search, although many of the results turn out desktop websites. Support for iPad, Windows Mobile and Nokia Ovi Store apps is "coming soon".

The RAC's mobile site offers very good UK driving directions with maps. Softmaza YouTube Download softmaza.in/yt/ A YouTube downloader for mobile devices. Paste the URL of a desktop YouTube page to download the video in MP4 or FLV file format. It works OK, although it would be a lot easier to use on mobile if it accepted YouTube mobile URLs.

Ragtube m.ragtube.com Indie Hip-Hop, Rock, Metal and R&B music videos. RagTube features over 3500 indie artists. Billed as an iPhone site, I had no trouble using it on an Android HTC Magic and with Opera Mobile 10 on Symbian. The high quality 480x320 mpeg4 average 10 MB in size. Source: Mobility.mobi

AppScout mobile.appscout.com/htmlsite/ Part of Ziff Davis' PCMag.com Network, AppScout is a news blog offering breaking news, tips, and reviews of desktop and mobile software and webapps.

The mobile edition, created by mDog, includes the full content and photos from all recent AppSout posts including read-only comments. There's a bug in the site's browser detection code which throws a 403 "Not Found" error with some mobile browsers when visiting appsout.com or mobile.appscout.com. Use mobile.appscout.com/htmlsite/ as a work around.

Thatsracin

ThatsRacin thatsracin.com/mobile/ is an upstart motorsports site from McClatchy, the third largest US newspaper chain. The slick desktop site features extensive coverage with loads of photos from the NASCAR, IndyCar, NHRA and Formula One series.

Their are two mobile editions of ThatsRacin. m.thatsracin.com is a legacy WAP version which works on all devices. However it's limited to one line synopses of each story with no way to view the full article. The "Touch Web" version at thatsracin.com/mobile/ is much better with the full text and photos from recent stories in a slick iPhonesque package. JavaScript is required. Follow the Oscars Live On Your Phone

The 82nd Academy Awards will be held this Sunday. The event is telecast live worldwide and the Academy claims it will be watched by over one billion viewers, making it the fourth most watched live television broadcast, after the Super Bowl, Olympics Opening Ceremony and World Cup Final.

If you are one of the many billions who can't watch the Oscars live on TV, I've found a couple of mobile sites where you can follow the festivities using your mobile browser.

The official Oscars site at m.oscar.com was created by Netbiscuits for The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and ABC, Inc., the official Oscars broadcaster in the US. It lists all of this year's nominees and promises to have live coverage starting at 8 PM EST on Oscar night. It's not clear if the live coverage will be streaming video or text, but I suspect the later.

While you're waiting for the show to start you can view hundreds of photos of stars on the runway from the last five years of Oscar or read a detailed history of the Academy Awards.

The site also has 35 videos including a multi-part "Road to the Oscars" piece, explanations of the science behind some of the nominees for technical awards and video interviews with nominees, hosts and writers. Unlike last year, there don't seem to be any trailers from the nominated films. The videos are served in a variety of formats and should work on any video capable device ranging from basic feature phones to the iPhone.

You can also sign up on the site for live text alerts featuring news about the nominees, information about special promotions, and live updates throughout the show (standard text messaging rates apply).

According to mobilizedtv.com one site that will definitely stream live Oscars videos to mobiles is AP Live Entertainment . It's a new partnership between the Associated Press and Livestream.com which launch with a special Oscars Red Carpet show Sunday from 6 to 8 PM EST. The show's main draw will be live streaming video of celebrities walking up the red carpet as they enter the Kodak Theater for the event. AP reporters will also post live updates during the awards ceremony and from Oscar after parties well into the evening.

One caveat is that Livestream apparently only works with the iPhone, iPodTouch, Android devices and recent BlackBerrys. I tried some of the site's other mobile streams of my N95-3 and got nothing.

DarkWAP.mobi darkwap.mobi Online mobile portal promising to reveal the "dark secrets of dark wap". While I didn't find anything truly secret or particularly "dark" on DarkWAP.mobi, the site does have some useful tips and tricks for mobile webmasters and users including GPRS settings for several operators, reviews of mobile ad networks and hosting providers and a directory of free server side scripts. Teli.mobi teli.mobi Teli.mobi is one of the larger directories of mobile formatted streaming video sites. It has links to dozens of video services organized into categories including News, Sport, Music, Movies, Kids, Religious, Webcams and Weather Radar. The site is targeted at Windows Mobile devices and most of the linked videos are in Windows Media format which is also supported by many Nokia, Sony Ericsson and Sprint CDMA devices.
