Opera Mini, Bolt and UC Browser On Bada Phones!

Samsung’s Dolfin browser on the Wave bada phone is a good one  in most respects. It loads pages quickly,  has excellent JavaScript performance and supports geo-location and many HTML5 features. But I found it unusable with many desktop sites because the fonts are too small to read at the zoom level where text columns fit the screen. Samsung Wooing Bada Developers With Cash, Free Tools, Devices And App Certification

I attended a Samsung Bada Developer Day in San Francisco yesterday. The event, part of a 35 city world tour, was a sold out full house with over 200 attendees. bada (Korean for “ocean”) is Samsung’s new smartphone platform. Native bada development is done in C++.  The bada IDE for native app development is Eclipse based and is currently Windows only with Apple OS X coming soon.  It includes an emulator  and supports on device debuggging.  The SDK ships with … Continue reading →

Motorola launches Widgets and Mobile Linux SDK

Not to be outdone by Access, Motorola held their own developer event, MotoDev Workshop, at LinuxWorld today. It was much better attended than the Access get together with a SRO crowd of about 100 people. It probably helped that Motorola made the event free at the last minute (vs the advertised $95), included lunch and had signs up all over Moscone Center promoting the Workshop. Access Linux Platform

Access held a “Developer Day” at LinuxWorld yesterday to demonstrate Access Linux Platform (ALP) and it’s associated toolset. Access is  best known for the NetFront full-web mobile browser and for purchasing PalmSource, including the Palm Garnet OS three years ago.  ALP is Access’ Linux based mobile OS which is meant to succeed Garnet as a general purpose operating system for smartphones and MIDs.  I attended several of the Developer Day sessions to see what I could find out about ALP. … Continue reading →
