Youth oriented fashion brand H&M's mobile site has a store finder, catalog  of current items, and a page to check the balance on your H&M gift card.

Shop or just browse the online retailer from your phone. The entire Overstock.com catalog appears to be available on the mobile site. Registered users can make online mobile purchases.

Overstock's browser detection is broken and only serves the mobile optimized site to  iPhone and  Android users. Other browsers mobile browsers get the desktop site.

ASOS, a large UK based online-only clothing and fashion brand has a new mobile site which was created by Usablenet. ASOS carries over 800 brands of  women's and men's clothing, shoes and accessories. The Mobile site features high resolution product images which are re-sized (on the server) to fit your device's screen width. Mobile purchases require an ASOS account but are easy as ASOS can use your stored billing and shipping details rather than forcing you to tediously enter them.  Source: GoMo News

Barnes & Nobile bookstore locator and book, music and toy search with online ordering.  You can register you shipping and credit card details in advance on Barnes and Noble's full-web site  to avoid a very tedious order form.  I guess B&N doesn't know about PayPal and Google Checkout's easy mobile payment options. It's nice to see big brands doing mobile web sites.  However this one from U.S. chain department store JC Penny doesn't impress. Its main features are a store locator, pictures and descriptions of a few featured items with no way to actually buy them. a signup form for text alerts and a page showing you how many points you have earned from the retailer's loyalty program.

Shop upscale department store chain Nordstrom with your mobile phone. The site features men's, women's and children's clothing and shoes, cosmetics, handbags and gifts for the home. Purchase online by logging into or creating a Nordstrom account.  There's also a store locator.

Mobile site for the U.S. version of QVC, the 24 hour cable TV shopping chanel.  The mobile site has a continuously updated link to the item that's currently being pitched on TV. The site also has descriptions and pictures of items featured in the last 12 hours and items that are new to QVC today,  You can also enter a QVC item number to view any available item.  All items can be purchased online on the mobile site using your QVC account credentials.

This mobile sile from U.S. drugstore chain, Walgreens lets you order perscription refills and find the nearest store location. 

Browse and shop the Victoria's Secret catalog of clothing, lingerie and cosmetics or purchase a gift card. Purchasing is by credit card only requires filling out the typical lengthy form which is not very practical using a phone keypad.  At least you can save your information for future use.

Online toy catalog and store locator for ToysRUs and BabiesRUs stores in the US. Online ordering using your stored ToyRUs account information or you use a credit card (requires a lot of keying). 

Mobile edition of TigerDirect.com, a major online computer and electronics retailer features product search and mobile online ordering and payment using mobile friendly Google checkout.

The mobile online arm of Kmart, one of the largest US chains of discount department stores in the US.  Kmart sells clothing, small appliances, electronics, toys, tools and auto accessories. Payment by credit card or using your Kmart.com account.

Rakuten (formerly Buy.com) is a general merchandise online retailer It's mobile site, lets shoppers browse product categories and sales sections or do a keyword search. For payment, Rakuten accepts mobile friendly Paypal. Amazon.com or Buy.com account holders can also pay using a stored credit card.

Sephora's mobile optimized site accepts gift cards and uses billing and shipping information from user profiles to simplify shopping for beauty, skin care, makeup, hair and fragrance products from your phone. Via; New York Times

Mobile online shopping site for John Lewis, an up-scale UK retailer specializing in furniture, fashion, toys, housewares, appliances, and gifts.

Debenhams is a large UK department store chain selling women's, men's and children's clothes, jewelery and shoes as well as furniture, small appliances and gifts. It has a major online business and ships to France, Germany, Spain, Sweden, United States, Australia and New Zealand at reasonable rates, £10.00 for most orders to the US for example .

Debenham's one size fits all mobile site uses JavaScript to enhance navigation on smart devices but works well if a bit slowly in most basic feature phone browsers without Javascript support,

Having a name that invariably seems to make jocks snicker doesn't seem to have hurt Dick's Sporting Goods's business.  The retailer operates 409 brick and mortar stores in the US as well as a an online shopping site at dickssportinggoods.com . Dick's just went mobile with an attractive mobile new site at dsports.mobi. It has an iPhone app like user interface but has modest page sizes and is functional without JavaScript and should be functional on most phones. The use of several fixed width elements do prevent the pages from reflowing to screen width on many devices with screens less than 320px wide screen, however.

Surprisingly there doesn't seem to be any way to actually purchase anything on the site.  There is a web form on each item page with a field for the quantity but no submit or "Add to cart" button  I tried on several different mobile and desktop browsers and was unable to find any way to make a purchase. This is in spite of a press release that clearly says

"The mobile site, which was designed and created by Pittsburgh-based Branding Brand (www.BrandingBrand.com), allows people to browse and purchase a complete selection of sporting goods online."

There's even a $10 off on online purchases coupon on the front page of the mobile site, too bad there is no way to actually use it! Seems like a bit of a fail both execution and marketing. I guses it's useful for price comparison while shoping at competitor's stores. There's a store locator on the mobile site so if Dick's has a better price you can check to see if there is store nearby.

US based youth clothing, shoe, accessory and cosmetics retailer American Eagle Outfitters' (AE) mobile site. You  can shop online and pay for your purchases with a stored credit card.There's also a store finder.

American Eagle recently launched a mobile gift card feature that lets you send an AE gift card to a friend by SMS and email. The recipient can use the card to shop online or at AE stores by entering the card number and PIN. The cards can be purchased on the mobile site.

New Look, a UK based retailer of Men and Women's Clothing and Teen Fashions, has reported seeing 500% increase in mobile online sales since launching a redesigned mobile site in May.

The redesign by Mobile Interactive Group (MIG) employs HTML5 and JavaScript to deliver a rich "app like" experience complete with  zooming and spinning effects in capable browsers. MIG's mobile platform supports over 12,000 different devices and the New Look site's adaptive design delivers almost the same appearance even in legacy feature phone browsers without JavaScript support.

I had no trouble navigating and using the site in the Android, Symbian and Opera Mini browsers and with the Myriad WAP browser on a cheap prepaid phone.

New Look operates over 1000 stores in the UK, Ireland, Russia, Poland, the Middle East and Singapore. It also does a big online business and ships to customers worldwide with free international shipping on orders over £55.

L.L.Bean, the 100 year old "Down East" retailer of outdoor apparel and gear famous for its quality products, free shipping, awesome customer service and 100% money back guarantee has finally joined the mobile world with a smartphone optimized mCommerce web app.

Created by m-commerce specialist house Usablenet, the mobile site lets you browse and search the Bean catalog of over 2000 items, order online and pay by entering shipping and credit card details or by using an address and card stored in your LL Bean user profile.  A click to call number is provided if you rather not deal with mobile data entry.

Bean and Useablenet say the web app is optimized for the iPhone, Android and BlackBerry devices. While that's true, the design seems to degrade gracefully in lesser browsers.  I even found it usable, at least for browsing the catalog,  on a basic prepaid feature phone running the ancient Openwave browser.

RadioShack (aka "The Shack"), the ubiquitous (over 6000 stores and a big on-line business) US retailer of electronics and gadgets, has a new mobile site. Mobile visitors to radioshack.com are redirected to the mobile property at m.radioshack.com. The well designed mobile site adapts itself to work well on everything from the old Openwave feature phone browser to the iPhone 4.

The mobile Radio Shack front page lets you browse RadioShack's huge on-line catalog by category, search for a particular product by name or keyword, find a nearby store, follow the SHACK on Twitter or Facebook, sign up for Email deal alerts or launch a (non-mobile optimized) Battery Finder.

Individual product pages include a product image, extensive descriptions and "Add to Cart" and "Find a Store" buttons. There are also buttons to email or Tweet a product link.

On-line purchases can be made using your stored RadioShack.com account's billing information or by entering shipping and credit card information.

The Find A Store feature uses geo-location if your device supports it and lets you search by zip-code if it doesn't. Nearby stores are shown on a map or list depending on your device's capabilities. Individual store details include address, hours and phone number.

When called from a product page the store search doesn't appear to be inventory aware (the same list of all nearby stores appears for every product). The store phone numbers aren't click to call either so checking if a product is available locally is harder than it needs to be.

Radio Shack's small footprint retail stores are found on small town main streets and in the malls and shopping districts of all US cities. They carry everything from electronic components and batteries to audiophile gear and a large selection of prepaid and contract mobile phones and accessories.

Alibris clams to be the largest independently owned and operated online marketplace for used books. The site lists over 120 million new and used books, including textbooks and rare and collectible titles. as well as music, and movies,

The site's mobile view only seems to support the iPhone, Android, WebOS and BlackBerry 6. Other mobile browsers including Opera Mobile and Mini and the bada and Symbian browsers are served the desktop version by default.

Moosejaw is a bricks and mortar and online retailer specializing in outdoor sports gear. Their .mobi site lets you search and browse the catalog to find gear and check prices. Although there's a shopping cart link on the site there doesn't seem to be any way to actually put anything in it!

U.S. travelers are familiar with SkyMall, whose catalog of quirky products lurks in the seat-back pockets of virtually every commercial airliner. But did you know that SkyMall also has Web and mobile Web sites where you can shop the SkyMall catalog without having to board a flight. 

The mobile site offers a large number of products in broad categories like "Sports" and Pet "Products".  There are no sub-categories or search, making the site more useful for casual browsing than finding anything specific.

One thing that SkyMall got right is offering mobile friendly payment options using PayPal,   Google Checkout or a click to call number.. If you are a regular SkyMall customer you can also make purchases using payment information from you stored profile.
