The mobile edition of the popular social bookmarking and news agregation site Reddit.com comes in two flavors,
m.reddit.com (first image, below) is the legacy mobile version with a front page size under 20 KB and no JavaScript dependencies. It's a read only view of all of Reddit's items, "Other Reddits" (subject matter categories) and comments.
i.reddit.com (second image) is Reddit's AJAXy new "Touch Web" version that requires JavaScript and a browser that can handle 200 KB pages. Compared with the legacy version it offers more eye candy and the ability to log in to post items and leave comments.

Hacker News is a socially currated tech news site somewhat like Reddit, but more closely focused on (ethical) hacking and startups. iHackerNews.com is @ronnieroller's mobile front end to Hacker News.

memeorandum.com/mini (HTML5)
Strives to find and link to the most relevant and authoritative versions of the top political news, primarily from well known bloggers. The stories that Mini-Memeorandum links too are NOT mobilized. This works OK if you are using a full-web browser like Opera, Netfront or PIE and have an unlimited data plan. If the the large pages are a problem for your browser or your wallet you should visit Memeorandum via Skweezer or the Google Transcoder.
