Updated 25-May-2010: Froyo availability information updated including links to Froyo ROM downloads.  Corrected:  Streaming non-DRM music over the air from your PC to the phone is a future release feature and is NOT in Froyo. As expected yesterday’s Google I/O announcements were all about Android. Android OS 2.2 code named  FroYo (“Frozen Yogurt”),  and Google TV, which runs Android, were announced. Skyfire 2.0 For Android Examined

Less than 24 hours after I chided Skyfire for only offering only a limited closed Alpha of Skyfire for Android,  the Skyfire for Android 2.0 Beta was released to all comers. Coincidence, almost certainly but cool nonetheless. Mobile Browser Wars: Firefox for Android “Pre-Alpha” Released

The battle of the mobile browsers heated up today with the release of a “pre-alpha” version of Firefox (aka Fennec) for Android 2.0 and above.  Details are on Firefox Mobile developer Vladimir Vukićević’s blog. There’s also a  Google Group that’s been setup for user feedback. The apk can be downloaded from bit.ly/fennec-android. Opera Mini 5 Beta for Android Is Here – Full Review

Opera Software today released their long awaited upgrade to Opera Mini for Android.  The Opera Mini 5 Android Beta is now available in the Android Market.  Search for “Opera Mini” in the Market to find it.  The Beta installs alongside of Opera Mini 4 rather than replacing it.
