Google promised to release the Android source code when the first handset went on sale.\u00a0 The T-Mobile Dream Android phone will be officially available tomorrow in the US.\u00a0 And true to their word, Google released the source today.\u00a0 It’s at source.android.com\/download<\/a>, where you can also find instructions for building Android on Ubuntu and Mac OS.<\/p>\n

I wonder how long it will take for the first ports to existing hardware like Windows Mobile, S60 and Palm OS handsets?\u00a0 When will we see the first new non-OHA Android phones?<\/p>\n

I expect to see Android running on all manner of old and new hardware within a month or two.\u00a0 This could get interesting.<\/p>\n

In other Android news, T-Mobile has said that they will kick off G1 sales 14 hours earlier than previously announced, but only at one location.\u00a0 At 6PM Pacific Time the phone will be available in “limited quantities” at the carrier’s 699 Market St.<\/a> location in San Francisco.\u00a0 The rest of the country will have to wait until 8AM tomorrow when the G1 will be offered in limited quantities at all company owned stores in T-Mobile’s 3G coverage area.<\/p>\n
