{"id":16442,"date":"2011-12-28T21:22:09","date_gmt":"2011-12-29T04:22:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.wapreview.com\/?p=16442"},"modified":"2011-12-28T21:22:11","modified_gmt":"2011-12-29T04:22:11","slug":"an-identi-ca-bookmarklet-for-mobile-browsers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wapreview.com\/16442\/","title":{"rendered":"An identi.ca Bookmarklet for Mobile Browsers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wapreview.com\/16442\/dentit\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-16447\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-large wp-image-16447\" style=\"border: 1px solid black;\" title=\"Dent It bookmarrklet in action\" src=\"https:\/\/wapreview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/DentIt-240x426.png\" alt=\"Dent It bookmarrklet in action\" width=\"240\" height=\"426\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As I <a href=\"https:\/\/wapreview.com\/9500\/\">posted<\/a> a while ago I&#8217;m a big fan of <a href=\"http:\/\/identi.ca\">identi.ca<\/a>, an open source micro-blogging site. \u00a0It&#8217;s a little like Twitter but non-commercial, ad-free and free (as in <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gratis_versus_libre#.22Free_beer.22_vs_.22free_speech.22_distinction\">free beer AND free\u00a0speech<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Recently identi.ca launched a major redesign of their desktop and mobile web apps. \u00a0There was quite a bit of downtime during and immediately after the update but stability seems to have returned to normal. \u00a0But some things still aren&#8217;t working. For one, in Opera Mini, the login link is hidden by the Status.net logo and not clickable. Another issure is that the <a href=\"http:\/\/identi.ca\/doc\/bookmarklet\">official identi.ca bookmarklet<\/a> doesn&#8217;t seem to work in mobile browsers, at least not in the Android browser or Opera Mini and Mobile.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s a simple work around for the Opera Mini login issue.\u00a0Temporarily\u00a0switch to single column mode on the Opera Mini settings page and refresh the page and the login link will became\u00a0visible. \u00a0Once you have logged in you should disable single column,\u00a0identi.ca looks and works much better with it turned off.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not sure why the official bookmarklet doesn&#8217;t work with mobile browsers. But bookmarklets are crucial to the way I share links from mobile devices so I&#8217;ve created a stripped down bookmarklet that does. \u00a0It&#8217;s not as fancy as the original. \u00a0All it does is compose a <em>Notice<\/em> (identi.ca&#8217;s equivalent of a Tweet) consisting of the current page&#8217;s title and URL. The official bookmarklet also includes any\u00a0highlighted\u00a0text in the Notice, but I couldn&#8217;t get that feature to work in the Android or Opera browsers.<\/p>\n<p>If your browser supports copying text and pasting into a new or existing bookmark. Copy the text below and paste it into a bookmark Save the bookmark with a memorable name like &#8220;Dent It&#8221; or &#8220;Share on identi.ca&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><textarea rows=\"4\" cols=\"60\">javascript:location.href=&#8217;http:\/\/identi.ca\/index.php?action=newnotice&amp;status_textarea=&#8217;+encodeURIComponent(document.title)+&#8217;%20&#8217;+encodeURIComponent(location.href);<\/textarea><\/p>\n<p>For browsers without copy\/paste like the Symbian browser and Opera Mini 4.n), <a href=\"http:\/\/o.yeswap.com\/?javascript:location.href='http:\/\/identi.ca\/index.php?action=newnotice&amp;status_textarea='+encodeURIComponent(document.title)+'%20'+encodeURIComponent(location.href);\">click here<\/a> to open a page with the bookmarklet embeded in the URL and instructions on how to save it as a bookmarklet.<\/p>\n<p>Once you have the bookmarklet, using it is easy.
