Here&#8217;s Some Help"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft\" title=\"Opera Mini - The New York Times\" src=\"https:\/\/wapreview.com\/images\/OmNYT.gif\" alt=\"Opera Mini - The New York Times\" width=\"240\" height=\"320\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is the fifth in a series of <a href=\"https:\/\/wapreview.com\/category\/opera-mini-tips-and-tricks\/\">Opera Mini Tips and Tricks<\/a> posts.\u00a0 This one covers the situation where you get an error trying to download Opera Mini.\u00a0 The Opera developers have gone to a lot of trouble to make Mini a generic Java ME application that will work on as many phones as possible.\u00a0 Most of the time installing Opera Mini is simply a matter of visiting <a href=\"http:\/\/mini.opera.com\">mini.opera.com<\/a> with your phone&#8217;s built-in browser, clicking the download link and following the prompts.\u00a0 Unfortunately, with some phones and\/or mobile operators it doesn&#8217;t work and you will get an error.\u00a0 Occasionally the problem is that Opera Mini is simply not compatible with the handset but often their are workarounds.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>So you got an error downloading what can you do?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>First try again, there may be temporary network or server issues that are preventing the download from completing. \u00a0If retrying didn&#8217;t work, what&#8217;s the error?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If it&#8217;s\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">&#8220;media not supported&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0&#8220;Forbidden&#8221;, &#8220;Content not Supported&#8221;, &#8220;This file cannot be viewed on the device&#8221;<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Are you using an iDEN phone (<\/span>Motorola i465, i680, etc.<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">)<\/span>? These phones do not support over the air downloads. \u00a0If you are in the US and your phone is on\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Nextel or Boost Mobile<\/span>, use<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"> <a href=\"http:\/\/boostapps.com\/tag\/opera-mini\/\">BoostApps.com<\/a><\/span>\u00a0to send Opera Mini directly to your phone. \u00a0SouthernLINC, Telus Mike and non-US iDEN operators customers can use a cable and the <a href=\"https:\/\/wapreview.com\/212\">iDEN JAL<\/a> loader to transfer Opera Mini to their phone.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The error is &#8220;<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Missing IBM Java VM Please ensure that IBM&#8217;s WebSphere Micro Environment Java VM is installed.<\/span>&#8221; This error occurs on Palm OS devices if you haven&#8217;t installed the Java JVM. To fix,\u00a0 download the JVM from <a href=\"http:\/\/downloads.palmone.com\/WEME571.zip\">downloads.palmone.com\/WEME571.zip<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/wapreview.com\/dwnld\/WEME571.zip\">(mirror)<\/a>. The download is zip file. Extract it on your PC and HotSync <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">J9JavaVMMidp20.prc<\/span>,<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"> j9pref.prc<\/span>, <strong>JavaVMCheck_enEN.prc, fileconnect.prc, pimop.prc<\/strong> and <strong>PIMPrefs.prc<\/strong> to your Palm, then download the Opera Mini .prc file from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.opera.com\/mobile\/download\/palm\/treo_650\/\">Opera.com<\/a> and HotSync it. <strong>Before launching Opera Mini for the first tim<\/strong>e go to <strong> Prefs <\/strong>on the Palm, scroll down to <strong>Other<\/strong>,\u00a0 choose <strong>IBM Java VM<\/strong>and set the following:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Memory Maximum: 4-32 MB<\/strong> (32MB seems to work for most models but if you get crashes try lowering it).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Maximum Java Thread Stack Size: 32 Kb<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Check &#8220;<strong>Use Double Buffering<\/strong>&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>On Hi-Res devices (All Palm OS 5 devices except the Treo 600), check &#8216;<strong>Use high resolution coordinates<\/strong>&#8216;.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>If the download succeeded but you get &#8220;<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Failed to connect&#8230;<\/span>&#8221; when you run Opera Mini see, <a href=\"https:\/\/wapreview.com\/466\"> Solving Opera Mini Connection Problems<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;901&#8221; <\/strong>or <strong>&#8220;Insufficient Memory&#8221;<\/strong> &#8211; try removing your phone&#8217;s battery for a minute or two then replacing it and restarting for a clean boot.\u00a0 It you still get the error try a lower memory version of Opera Mini.\u00a0 Both 3.1 versions use less memory than 4.2 with the 3.1 low memory version using the least.<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">905&#8243;, <\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">&#8220;attributes mismatch<\/span>&#8220;, <strong>&#8220;908&#8221;<\/strong> or <strong>&#8220;Incompatible Configuration or Profile&#8221; <\/strong> &#8211; Usually means that your are trying to install a MIDP2 version on a phone that only supports\u00a0 MIDP1. This won&#8217;t happen if you are downloading from mini.opera.com and you phone model is detected.\u00a0 If Opera doesn&#8217;t detect your phone,\u00a0 You can find the MIDP1 (labeled as &#8220;basic&#8221;) versions at <a href=\"http:\/\/my.opera.com\/community\/forums\/topic.dml?id=221224\">my.opera.com\/community\/forums\/topic.dml?id=221224<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;904&#8221;,\u00a0 &#8220;JAR size mismatch&#8221;<\/strong>, &#8220;<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">905&#8243;, <\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">&#8220;Attribute mismatch<\/span>&#8220;, <strong>&#8220;Content size mismatch&#8221;, &#8220;906&#8221;<\/strong> and <strong>&#8220;Invalid Descriptor Attribute Format&#8221;<\/strong> all indicate that the phone thinks there is something wrong with the Java Application Description (JAD) file.\u00a0 This error is rare with Opera Mini but often occurs when installing applications from other vendors whose developers are sloppy.\u00a0 It also occurs with some Sprint LG phones that have a bug which prevents them from recognizing certain valid JAD constructs.\u00a0 The workaround in all cases is to use a third party OTA installer which recreates the JAD file in a generic format.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/rumkin.com\/tools\/sprint\/\">Rumkin<\/a> works well with US carriers especially Sprint.<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">903&#8243; ,\u00a0 &#8220;network timeout<\/span>&#8220;, &#8220;<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">907&#8243; <\/span>or <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">&#8220;server error<\/span>&#8221; &#8211; These errors indicate network problems which are often temporary. Try again later<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">909&#8243;,\u00a0 &#8220;Application Authentication failure<\/span>&#8221; , &#8220;<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">910&#8243;<\/span> or<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"> &#8220;Application authorization failure<\/span>&#8221;\u00a0&#8211; Your phone doesn&#8217;t like Opera Mini&#8217;s certificate. \u00a0If you are on Sprint or are using a BlackBerry you must use the unsigned versions, otherwise try the other signed versions first with the unsigned as a last resort.
