I’ve accumulated a huge backlog of worthwhile mobile sites that I hoped to review eventually. It’s now painfully obvious that the mobile web is growing much too fast for me to keep up. So, I’m launching a new Wap Review weekly feature, Found on the Mobile Web which will list the new sites I’ve discovered in the past week or so with a just a terse description of each. These new sites have also been added to the YesWAP.com Mobile Portal and to Wap Review‘s directory of mobile sites.

Here are this week’s Found on the Mobile Web sites listed by their WapReview/YesWAP category (in bold):

Business/News

Dexigner WAP (wap.dexigner.com) – News site covering many aspects of commercial design including product, fashion, jewelry, digital web and graphic design as well as architecture.

The Smirking Chimp – Mobile edition of a popular anti-Bush US Political Blog.

News/International

Akwaaba / GhanaWeb – News, Sports and Classified Ads from Ghana.

Entertainment/MobileVideo

MobiVid.Tv – Nice mobile video sharing site. Content seems to be almost 100% user generated. Most of the videos are created with camera phones and are short, 10 seconds or so and around a 100 KB in size.

Moblr.com – Another site featuring user generated camera phone videos. Lots of content. Free, no registration required to down load and view videos most of which are in 3gp format and under 300KB. Register, also free, to upload and to rank and comment on videos.

Search/Local

Restaurant Row – Search for restaurants in the US by zip code, cuisine and distance.

Technology/Tech News

Gizmodo.com – Gawker Media has mobilized another of their sites, gadget blog Gizmodo, using the same mobile template as Lifehacker. The flaws I mentioned in the Lifehacker review are present in Gizmodo too; pages and images that are too large for most mobiles, theres no way to view or enter comments and browser detection prevents switching between the mobile and PC versions on the same device.

Technology/Mobile/Forums

Technology/Mobile/Smartphones/Symbian
