{"id":696,"date":"2008-08-18T14:43:13","date_gmt":"2008-08-18T21:43:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wapreview.com\/?p=696"},"modified":"2008-08-21T10:27:52","modified_gmt":"2008-08-21T17:27:52","slug":"microsofts-msn-mobile-adds-video","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wapreview.com\/696\/","title":{"rendered":"Microsoft&#8217;s MSN Mobile Adds Video"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" title=\"MSN Video\" src=\"https:\/\/wapreview.com\/images\/MSNvideo.png\" alt=\"MSN Video\" width=\"190\" height=\"242\" class=\"alignleft\" \/>Microsoft has added a page of mobile videos to the MSN Mobile portal.\u00a0 There&#8217;s a <em>Mobile Video<\/em> link on <a title=\"mobile site\" href=\"http:\/\/mobile.msn.com\">mobile.msn.com<\/a> or you can go directly to the video page at <a title=\"mobile site\" href=\"http:\/\/video.mobile.msn.com\/\">video.mobile.msn.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The bad news is that the videos are only available in Windows Mobile Video format which means that for the most part they only work on Windows Mobile devices.\u00a0 According to\u00a0  <a href=\"http:\/\/dev.mobi\/forum\/free-analysis-tool-mobile-pages\">Sevenval&#8217;s<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/mobilewatch.7val.com\/mobilewatch\/files\/mobileWatchWikipediaApril_08.pdf\">mobileWatch mobile analytics report<\/a>,\u00a0 only about 25% percent of the video capable phones in the world can handle that format.\u00a0 If Microsoft is serious about the mobile web they need to support industry standard video formats like H.263 and MPEG-4 in addition their own proprietary ones. <strong>Update 21-Aug-2008:<\/strong> It turns out that MSN mobile video does support non-Windows Media formats.\u00a0 Details <a href=\"https:\/\/wapreview.com\/821\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The good news is that there are thousands of videos available.\u00a0 Content includes News, Sports, Music Videos and Movie trailers.
