Wired<\/em><\/strong> m.wired.com<\/a> Wired magazine’s slick new mobile site features most of the content of Wired.com in a very attractive touch mobile format that takes some of its design cues from the magazine’s acclaimed (and pricey) iPad app.<\/p>\n

The one size fits all page design manages to look and work well with the iPhone, Android, Symbian, Opera Mini and Opera Mobile browsers. The 170 KB front page size might be too much for some feature phone browsers, however.<\/p>\n

My only real complaint is that the many, great videos of the iPad and full web editions don’t seem to be working in the mobile web version. An embeded player is defined in the code but no player appears in the Android, Symbian or bada browsers. On the other hand, the site’s banner ads don’t seem to be displaying either.

Mobile Video<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Vimeo<\/em><\/strong> www.vimeo.com\/m\/<\/a> The popular video sharing site Vimeo is dedicated to true user generated content and doesn’t allow commercial videos.<\/p>\n

There’s a lot of interesting content on Vimeo but it’s hard to access from any phone except an iPhone or Android device. There’s a bug in the site’s browser detection logic that redirects Symbian, bada, Opera Mobile, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile and other mobile browsers to Vimeo’s desktop site even if the user explicitly enters the mobile URL<\/span>!<\/p>\n

The videos on the desktop site are Flash and don’t work on most mobile devices. The ones on the iPhone\/Android Vimeo site are MPEG-4 packaged, H.264, AAC encoded and should work on most modern handsets – if only there were a way to get to them.

The CW <\/em><\/strong> wap.cwtv.com<\/a> is a US cable TV network targeting the 18-34 demographic. A joint venture between Warner Bros. and CBS it gets its name from the partner’s initials. The mobile site has plot summaries, photos and videos from the network’s hit shows including 90210, Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girl, Smallville<\/span> and America’s Top Model<\/span>. There seem to be\u00a0 problems with the videos. Some of them played on my Android and Samsung bada devices, but many did not. None of the videos I tried worked on a Nokia N8.
