Net Magazine’s “20 HTML5 Sites that changed the game” – Many Work Well In Mobile Browsers

Net Magazine.com

Thanks to Opera’s Bruce Lawson (@brucel) sharing the link on Twitter I discovered Oli (@boblet) Studholme’s “2011 in review: 20 HTML5 sites that changed the game piece on netmagazine.com. It’s a great showcase of pages that exploit new web technology to good effect.  I first saw the link while browsing with the Android 2.3 browser on a Motorola Photon and was surprised and pleased that both .net magazine and many of the showcased sites (HTML5 for Web Developers, Move the Web ForwardThe Boston GlobeSoundCloud, Anatomy of A Mashup and Rally Interactive) reformatted themselves nicely and worked well in the mobile environment.

Of course, the majority of the showcased sites use bleeding edge features that barely work in desktop browsers, so don’t expect everything to work with your mobile browser. Still, the showcased sites excite and amaze me about the sort of apps that can already be built on the web and will I hope, soon be possible on mobile too.

Check out the article (in a modern desktop browser for best results), for some great examples of “responsive design”, the use of  SVG, WebGL, the <audio> and <canvas > tags and a lot more.
