Opera Mini for Android was updated to version 7.5.1 today. This updates fixes several bugs: Improved connection stability Improved NFC support Page layout improvements Various stabilization fixes I applied the update on an Motorola M855 Photon running Android 2.3.4. The update was painless and all my bookmarks, speed dials, saved pages and settings were  retained. Opera Software has released updates for a couple of its browsers. Data Saving New UC Mini 8.0 Proxy Browser for Android Now Available

UCWeb has released a new 8.0 version of its proxy based UC Browser Mini for Android. The new version is only available from the UC website and is not in the Android Play Store yet. The non-proxy version of the UC Browser 8.4.1 is in the Play Store, but it’s just a user interface wrapper around Android’s Webview class. There are lots of Webview based browsers for Android. SPeeDY New Opera Mobile 12.1 for Android With Improved CSS3 and HTML5 Support

Opera Mobile 12.1 for Android 1.6 and later was released today. It’s available now from the Play Store. Sideloaders can download the .apk from opera.com/mobile/download/versions/. This release emphasizes improved performance. It includes support for additional CSS3 and HTML5 features and an implementation of Google’s SPDY “SPeeDY” protocol which reduces latency and improves page loading speed.  Fraud protection, which warns users of suspicious web pages has been added and Opera Mobile for Android now supports MIPS and Intel processors.  Here’s the full change … Continue reading

Data Saving New Nokia Xpress Proxy Browser for Lumia Windows Phones Speeds Page Loads

Nokia recently launched a Beta version of Nokia Xpress, a proxy browser for Nokia Lumia Windows phones.  The new browser is somewhat similar to the Nokia Series 40 proxy browser that I reviewed previously and which is now also called Xpress. Like Opera Mini and the UC Browser, Xpress uses a proxy server to pre-format and compress pages before they are sent to the device.
