I attended an Intel AppUp Application Lab at APPNATION in San Francisco today.  The two hour event was targeted at current and potential MeeGo app developers. At the end of the presentation Intel gave every attendee with an Intel Atom powered ExoPC Slate tablet capable of running MeeGo or Windows. AppUp Scott Crabtree from Intel developer relations introduced AppUp which is Intel’s app store. My Thoughts On NokiaSoft

I’m still trying to digest today’s announcement that Nokia will adopt “Windows Phone as its primary smartphone strategy”. Symbian will become a “franchise platform”, which based on the slide below (from one of Nokia’s announcement  press PDFs) means will it will be gradually phased out. Meego will become a research project for exploration of future products. As the side below shows R&D investment in MeeGo will drop by about two thirds.  That slide also suggests that  massive layoffs in Nokia … Continue reading

Why Nokia’s MeeGo Phone Won’t Use An Intel CPU

Characters from the MeeGo Project – meego.com I don’t normally get into rumors but there’s one floating around on the Internet that’s got me really wound up. The claim is that Nokia will launch its first MeeGo handset at the Mobile World Congress next month in Barcelona with an Intel Atom processor. The story grew out of a one line mention in a brief item on the Finnish tech site Prosessori. (In Finnish, Google translation). I don’t buy it. I … Continue reading

Sprint Developer Conference – M2M and Meego

I’m at Sprint’s Developer Conference in Santa Clara today. I’m surprised at how large it is. There are 1500 registered attendees and at least half of the (typically morning adverse developers) showed up for the 9:30 AM opening keynote. Sprint is only the third largest US operator, serving 50 million customers or about 17% of total US mobile users and around 1% of the world’s phones. So why did 1500 mobile developers show up for a relatively minor operator’s event, … Continue reading
