Carnival of the Mobilists 34

Wireless World Forum (W2F) is hosting this week’s Carnival. I really enjoyed and learned a lot from the 21 posts that are showcased this week. I’m also proud to say that my recent item on HopStop was included. You can find the Carnival here. Also, the polls are open for voting for the Carnival’s Best Post of June. The winner of the popular vote will receive $250 thanks to the support of Khosla Ventures. There will be a Best Post … Continue reading

Le Tour de France

Update 6/30/2006: Those of you that are cycling fans already know this, but less than 3 hours after I wrote the words below this year’s Tour de France started to unravel. A doping scandal that had been simmering in Spain for months exploded with 58 professional cyclists under investigation. Among the implicated riders are nine would-be participants in this years Tour including last year’s second, third and fourth place finishers Ivan Basso, Jan Ulrich and Francisco Mancebo. All of the … Continue reading

HopStop Mobile

To me at least, public transit and the mobile web could make a very enabling combination. When I’m out on the streets and want to get somewhere, I’d love to be able pull out my phone and bring up a little map showing the route from my current location to a nearby bus or subway stop along with step by step directions on how to get to where I want to go on the transit system – including any transfers … Continue reading

Carnival of the Mobilists 33

This week the Carnival is at Rudy De Waele’s m-trends.org. The latest Carnival features 15 entertaining and informative items on the varied aspects of the mobile scene. Congratulations to Stefanie Rieger, whose post on mobile casual gaming was picked as Post of the Week. It’s an excellent carnival, one of the best yet, enter the Midway right here.

Phone Fan Sites

I’ve added several mobile sites to the WapReview directory and YesWAP.com mobile portal. These are all “Phone Fan” sites which cover mobile technology from the point of view of a enthusiastic end user, phone hacker or developer. This is a very active and vibrant part of the mobile web. The portal currently has 73 sites listed under the “Mobile Phones” category and another 27 in the “PDA” group. Together the phone and PDA sites account for nearly of a quarter … Continue reading

Name That Tune!

I stumbled onto a mobile site that will tell you what song is currently playing on almost any US radio station. The site is mobile.yes.com and it’s actually not new having been around for over three years. It works pretty well after you get past the initial hurtle of finding your station – which is a bit tedious on the phone. You first pick your city and then the station. Yes has thankfully broken the city list up by first … Continue reading

Carnival of the Mobilists 32

This week, the Carnival of the Mobilists is at back where it all began at MobHappy. Russell Buckley started the Carnival at MobHappy and has done much to support it and to encourage it’s growth. And growing the Carnival is, each week there is a fresh crop of great articles on the technical, business, political and social aspects of mobile telephony and data. Head on over to MobHappy and take a look at Carnival 32. Congratulations to Martin Sauter, whose … Continue reading

YubNub Mobile

YubNub is a web app that has been generating a lot of buzz ever since Jon Aquino created it a year ago to win a Ruby on Rails programming contest. If you haven’t heard of YubNub (Ewok for “hooray’, BTW) it’s a “command line for the web”. Just like the MS-DOS > prompt or a *nix shell, you type commands into YubNub and wonderful things happen – or not – if you mess up. As the web takes on more … Continue reading
