Gmail for Java and Blackberry No Longer Available From Google – Get It Here

Posted on December 14, 2011 by Dennis Bournique
Gmail 2.0.6 for mobile Java

On November 22, 2011, Google discontinued support for mobile Java and BlackBerry versions of its Gmail app and removed the download links for these apps from their sites. The Gmail apps still work and are the best way I’ve found to access Gmail on non-touchscreen feature phones.  I haven’t used a BlackBerry in years but when I did I used the Google app because it worked better with Gmail than BlackBerry Mail did. As these apps still work I’m posting … Continue reading →

HushMail – Secure Mobile Mail

Posted on October 7, 2008 by Dennis Bournique

Email is not a secure service.  Even if you use a secure transport like HTTPS or SSL to access your mail, once your messages leave your email provider’s mail server they travel unencrypted over the Internet to the recipient’s mail server.  For this reason you really should not use regular email to send credit card numbers, SSNs or confidential personal or business information. Messages can be intercepted and read by employers, ISPs, government agencies and hackers.  Fax or even a … Continue reading →

Best Yahoo Mobile Webmail Client Yet

Posted on August 29, 2008 by Dennis Bournique

I use Yahoo Mail a lot of my phone, all mail to the wapreview.com domain gets forwarded to my Yahoo account and I end up reading much of it on my phone with Opera Mini. Unfortunately reading Yahoo Mail on a phone is a bit of a pain. I can’t use the N95’s built in email client as Yahoo doesn’t support IMAP and using POP3 with multiple clients (desktop and various mobiles) is insane. Neither the full or mobile versions … Continue reading →

Mobile Webmail Comparison

Posted on December 8, 2007 by Dennis Bournique

I spend quite a bit of time in email on my phones and I’ve come to the conclusion that there are only two things that really matter in the usability of a mobile email application; speed and click distance. Speed, as in the number of seconds it takes to delete or file the current message and load the next. Click distance meaning how many key presses it takes to read and manage my mail. I’ve been primarily using the gMail … Continue reading →

Gmail OTA Download for Boost/Nextel

Posted on December 26, 2006 by Dennis Bournique

I discovered something neat. Nextel and Boost customers can download the Gmail Java application over the air (OTA) for free. No data cable needed. There are two ways to get it. Using your PC go to nextelmedia.sprintpcs.com. DON’T choose a phone yet! Gmail only works on MIDP 2 phones (the ones with 3 digits in the model name, i730, i855, etc.). There’s a bug in the site where if you choose a compatible phone, Gmail won’t be listed. You are … Continue reading →

SoonR’s AnyTime Update and Ajax

Posted on December 12, 2006 by Dennis Bournique

SoonR has released a new feature called AnyTime which I’ve had the pleasure of beta testing for the last month. Read all about it on the SoonR website. I covered SoonR extensively last month so I’m not going to go over all the details again here but basically SoonR lets you access files on your PC remotely using any browser including the browser in your phone. SoonR also lets you initiate cheap Skype calls from your phone using the copy … Continue reading →

SoonR Supercharges Your Phone

Posted on November 16, 2006 by Dennis Bournique

SoonR is hardly new but I never really looked at it until now. A demo at Mobile 2.0 opened my eyes to what SoonR can do. It’s a unique application and web service that uses your mobile browser to really extend your phone’s capabilities in may ways, not the least of which is making cheap International calls using Skype and accessing your PC’s files and Outlook. After you sign up for the free service, and install a small application on … Continue reading →

Mail2Web

Posted on July 27, 2006 by Dennis Bournique

While I was traveling the last couple of weeks, one of the tools I used to keep up with my email was the mobile version of Mail2Web.com. Mail2Web is a well established (the web version has been around for almost ten years) service with an excellent privacy policy that lets you retrieve POP3 or IMAP mail from any server using a Web, PDA or WAP1 wml interface. Mail2Web even works with services like Gmail which require a secure login. I … Continue reading →
