Sprint’s New Mobile Ad Network Pinsight Media+ Promises Better Targeting, Metrics and CTR

I spent the last two days at the Sprint Open Solutions Conference as a guest of Sprint which is the third largest US mobile operator. The event, which used to be called the Sprint Developer Conference, has been broadened to include more business related content but there are still many technical sessions targeted at consumer and enterprise mobile app developers. There were a couple of interesting presentations on mobile advertising. It’s no secret that the revenue per click or impression from ads … Continue reading

Connect To Social Media Week With The Mobile Webapp

This week is Social Media Week, a semi-annual (February and September) event for anyone interested in social media. So what is social media? Definitions vary, but to me it’s any form of online collaboration and interaction including social networks, blogs, forums, wikis, microblogs, media sharing, online game worlds and much more. The event is made up of over 1000 presentations, panels, brainstorming sessions, games and parties which are held during the same week in multiple cites around the world. The particular cities vary from year … Continue reading

Qt’s Mobile Resurgence, RIM, Android, iOS and the “Next Billion” at QT Developer Days 2011

I attended Qt Developer Days in San Francisco this week. It’s the premiere event for developers working with Qt, a free and open source PC, embedded and mobile development platform that’s also available under a commercial license. Originally Qt was a C and C++ only framework, but since late last year it also includes Qt Quick, which lets developers build touch UIs using a Javascript based scripting language called QML.  Qt has been developed and maintained by Nokia since the company’s acquisition of Trolltech in 2008. It’s been a year … Continue reading

GigaOM’s two day Mobilize conference kicks off today here in San Francisco.  It’s sold out but can watch a live video stream at event.gigaom.com/mobilize/video/. I had planned to attend Mobilize but was called for jury duty and will probably miss most of it. On the eve of the event GigaOm has released a 119 page report titled The Future Of Mobile in which 11 GigaOm Pro analysts call out mobile trends and identify areas of mobile that are poised for growth. According … Continue reading

Mobile 2.0 Event Highlights – Design Workshops and Encouraging Entrepreneurship

I spent the day yesterday at Mobile 2.0 in San Francisco.  Great event as always. Highlights for me included Larry Berkin‘s overview of the current and future device landscape, and Jame’s Pearce‘s whirlwind tour of the capabilities of modern mobile browsers and the development tools and libraries for working with then. A new feature of this year’s event were two interactive workshops that were part of the afternoon’s development/design track. The workshops broke the audience up into teams to work on a … Continue reading
