I suspect the problem is due to the absence of a MIME-type declaration. It is not a problem when you use HTML doctype. However,in XHTML,I think if the MIME-type is not expressed explicitly, the device might get confused and render error. This happens only on XHTML-ONLY browsers.
Howsthebar is generic html served as text/html. I’m surprised the s40v2 phones can’t handle that, I had no idea. It’s quite common even on so called “mobile” sites.
Do you know if it’s the mime type or the doctype the S40V2’s are rejecting. Would either of these work?
1) xhtml-mp served as text/html
2) html served as application/xhtml+xml or application/vnd.wap.xhtml+xml
Both ba2go.com and ba.com/mobile redirect me to:
http://mobile.usablenet.com/mt/www.britishairways.com/travel/home/public/en_us?un_jtt_redirect
I agree that ba2go.com is a better URL in terms of ease of keyin gand I’ll change my links to point to it.
Dear Dennis!
1. http://howsthebar.mobi slapped me a “file format unknown”.I would strongly suggest you to test the sites on a browser that supports ONLY xhtml.Any s40v2 (e.g. Nokia3220 or 6020) phone will do.
2. The British Airways link is redirecting to http://ba2go.com which seems more logical to be stated.
