Orkut Forcing Opera Mini to Mobile Version

Orkut LogoIt looks like Google’s Orkut has pulled a Friendster and is forcing Opera Mini users to the mobile version of the site. There’s nothing wrong with using browser detection to redirect mobile browsers to a mobile friendly site BUT there needs to be a way to get to the full version if desired. Many of today’s mobile browsers including Opera Mini and Mobile, some versions of Netfront and S60 Webkit are capable of loading almost any site on the web. Many users of these browsers prefer the full versions especially when the mobile edition offers only a subset of the site’s features as Orkut’s does.

On the Opera Mini forum there’s been a lot of talk about this issue and a search for a workaround. Opera Mini power user jbpseudo has discovered a way to force Orkut to send the full version to any browser. Enter the following (all on one line):

https://www.google.com/accounts/ServiceLogin?service=orkut
&continue=http://www.orkut.com/RedirLogin.aspx&passive=true

It seems to work whether you are already logged into your Google account or not. If you’re not logged in it prompts you for user id and password, of course.

That’s a pretty ugly URL to have to type in. An alternative is to point Opera Mini at WapReview.mobi and click on the link in this post or to use this tiny url: http://tinyurl.com/6et9nr

  4. I am using Nokia 5130c express music,I have prob with opera mini.I cant access any website , if I am doing so, it shows connection error.
    When will the mobile orkut problem be over . Solve it as soon as possible.

    I have another browser. i cant post scraps continuously , if i posted scraps after 10 to 15 scraps ,i cant post the 16th scrap . i am viewing my friends scrap book only and not my scrap.

    please try to solve this , i used all your tricks given in this page , still finding difficulty in opening in mobile .

  8. M usin orkut in my mobile in opera mini 5 browser since many months and i love it alot. Using orkut was made complete by the full screen view. But now a days i couldn’t open the full screen in my mobile. Please help me and tell me how to view full screen of orkut in my mobile. Plz plz plz..

    Btw now my full version is opening but wen i click on ne community link it redirects me to mobile version.

    Bolt and skye can open bolt. But they are not as fast as opera to use.

    So lets hope positive reply from orkut and then start again full desktop version

    why they dont want to give the full site,it will actually be benifited if they do so

    • Even I m facing this problem. Well, it is not answer. But when I tried to open full site with another orkut accounts, surpriseingly it was working. It means that orkut locked only thoso who were accessing full site continuesly with same account.

    • That sounds like it could be related to the “New” version of Orkut. Try clicking the “older version” link in the top right on the Orkut PC version.

    When I am logging into my account , I can find only mobile view where i cant post scraps , after switching to full view only I can post scraps .The url http://tinyurl.com/6et9nr is not working for me , it again shows the mobile view only . When I opened my friend’s profile and switch over to full view , it again showed my home page in mobile view .

  28. in your m.orkut site visit any of your friend*s profile . and on the end of your page you can see full view just click and you made it this is 100# working . and dont forget to bookmark the page . for free tricks on airtel mailme at [email protected]

  29. I save the full version page once and then reload it when i want to login on opera mini 4.2 and 5 beta

      “Recently orkut has made some changes. What u see now is latest view of orkut.
      Solution- Switch off the mobile view. Go to http://m.orkut.com
      Click on profile to some other person. Now when u reach the profile of that person, click on full view at the bottom of the page. Full view of orkut will open in latest view. Now switch off this orkut update by clicking on the link ‘older version’ just below the search box at top right side of page.. On clicking on that link, u will never face this problem in future and you can access full view of orkut normally. Hope this helped you. Try it. Me too had the same problem and now its solved.”

      I didn’t test this as don’t use Orkut anymore. Try it and let us know if it works.

    If you are doing that and have a problem with a specific feature of Orkut I suggest you file a bug report with Opera at:

    Incompatibilities between Opera and Orkut have to be fixed by Opera and Google. There is nothing we users can do except to keep reporting bugs.

    Mobile version is too boring. I am using opera. I don’t know what version it is…. But whenever i try to login through the links that you’ve provided, a blank blue screen appears… Try solving out this soon man!
