MSN Spaces Mobile

The mobile version of MSN Spaces has really changed since I last looked at it five months ago. I’d say it’s almost a complete redesign. I’m sure you’ve heard of Spaces – Microsoft’s blogging/social networking platform. Spaces can be used as a pure blogging platform but its social aspect sets it apart from traditional blogging platforms like Typepad or Blogger. The social part comes from tight integration with MSN Messenger and Hotmail (a link to your latest blog post can … Continue reading

Wampad.com

I got an email from a fellow named Shawn McCollum asking me to take a look at his new mobile site, Wampad.com. I believe that Shawn has actually created a new type of mobile site – a search based portal. The basic concept is that you enter a search phrase once and then use it to query a bunch of different sites. Wampad’s front page is simplicity itself. There’s just a drop down, a text box and a Go button. … Continue reading

25th Carnival of the Mobilists

Judy Breck is hosting this week’s edition of the Carnival of the Mobilists at her fascinating and beautifully designed site, Golden Swamp. The Carnival provides one stop access to some of the week’s best writing on mobile topics. This week I particularly enjoyed Justin Oberman’s story about a certain magician and his mobily assisted crime stopping powers. There’s a lot of other great stuff in this week’s Carnival, like insights into the big phone manufacturers marketing strategies, software and hardware … Continue reading

news4mobile

Here’s a neat new site that I found mentioned at MobileRead. It’s called news4mobile – which is a sort of misleading name as it’s not really a news site. News4mobile is a mobile portal with a social ranking system that makes it sort of a combination of Digg and del.icio.us. Anyone can (after registering) add a link to a mobile site. That’s not especially new as there have been lots of sites like that and most of them quickly became … Continue reading

Carnival 24

This week Jim Hughes is hosting the Carnival of the Mobilists at his Feet up! blog. A lot of interesting reading in this weeks Carnival – topics range from technology to business to humor to positive role mobile phones play in emerging societies. The Carnival is a weekly gathering of interesting blog posts on mobile topics. If you would like to learn more about the Carnival or submit an entry for next week’s Carnival the details are all here.

CyclingLive Fixed Now – I hope.

If any cycling fans were trying to follow the Tour de Georgia on my CyclingLive Mobile page which is a mashup of Velonews.com’s live coverage and various mobile transcoders, I apologize for it not working. Velonews changed both the url and and the page layout and I was caught flatfooted. The new Velonews Live web site is actually very cool with an iFrame that shows the riders progress live on Google maps. But the new site is not as inherently … Continue reading

Tokyo!

I just got back from a week in Tokyo, paradise for mobile geeks. 3G seems to be taking Japan by storm. In wandering around the city, I saw many of the latest 3G handsets in use. One of the most popular seemed to be NEC’s Linux based N902i on the DoCoMo FOMA network. The selling point of this phone is the 2MP camera with image stabilization and auto focus, but the nicest part for me was the Netfront browser on … Continue reading
