ING DIRECT Mobile Banking

ING DIRECT is an internet bank with very good interest rates on insured savings and checking accounts. ING recently launched a mobile banking site which lets customers view balances and transactions and transfer funds between accounts using their mobile phones. The site works fairly well but has some issues. The first problem is that when I tried the URL that ING publishes, ingdirect.com/m, my Motorola i850 reported “Could not connect to site”. I tried it in Firefox to capture the … Continue reading

BareSite – Another Mobile Transcoder

BareSite.com: (baresite.com) is another mobile transcoder. I like the name,  it may sound like  a porn site, but at least you aren’t likely to forget it. Mobile transcoding is a crowded field with some tough competition. I don’t use transcoders much any more since the advent of Opera Mini but new ones keep popping up and for good reason. There are millions of BREW phones from Verizon, Alltel and US Cellular that can’t run Opera Mini so there is a … Continue reading

MyCorner – Mobile Video

MyCorner: (m.mycorner.com) Is a nicely designed site with a variety of user submitted news, tech sports and travel videos in 176×144 .3gp format. I enjoyed the ones taken by someone wandering around the big 3GSM trade show in Barcelona earlier this year. Anyone can download, you must register to submit videos. Registration can be done on the phone or on MyCorner’s PC web site and requires giving your mobile phone number. As far as I know MyCorner is reputable but … Continue reading

MSN Mobile Redesign

Microsoft has completely revised their mobile portal. The changes have been in public beta for the last four months and have gone through quite a bit of tweaking during that time. The final result is impressive. Most mobile portal’s start pages are a bunch of links and a search box. Microsoft is putting real content right on the home page. Users see News, Sports and Entertainment headlines with small 50px wide images plus a three day local weather forecast on … Continue reading

101cookbooks

The iPhone has spawned a bunch of new mobile web sites launching as “iPhone Applications”. You can find a big listing of these at iPhoneApplicationList.com. Many need the advanced JavaScript capabilities and 480px wide screen of the iPhone but some like 101cookbooks will work on almost any phone. 101cookbooks is the site of San Francisco photographer, cookbook author and collector of cookbooks, Heidi Swanson. Heidi has a lot more than 101 cookbooks and every few days she publishes a recipe … Continue reading
