news4mobile

Here’s a neat new site that I found mentioned at MobileRead. It’s called news4mobile – which is a sort of misleading name as it’s not really a news site. News4mobile is a mobile portal with a social ranking system that makes it sort of a combination of Digg and del.icio.us. Anyone can (after registering) add a link to a mobile site. That’s not especially new as there have been lots of sites like that and most of them quickly became … Continue reading

CyclingLive Fixed Now – I hope.

If any cycling fans were trying to follow the Tour de Georgia on my CyclingLive Mobile page which is a mashup of Velonews.com’s live coverage and various mobile transcoders, I apologize for it not working. Velonews changed both the url and and the page layout and I was caught flatfooted. The new Velonews Live web site is actually very cool with an iFrame that shows the riders progress live on Google maps. But the new site is not as inherently … Continue reading

OSNews

OSNews is a web site that covers just about every operating system past and present. There are the expected articles on the latest Microsoft Vista delay, the backlash against the Intel Apple and new releases of various Linux distros, but to me the real heart of OSNews is it’s coverage of obsolete and obscure OS’s. It’s a great site for anyone who has been playing with computers for a while and wants to know what’s up with the old systems … Continue reading

MacRumors

With Apple Computer’s 30th anniversary approaching, I thought I’d try to find some Apple specific mobile sites. While there are plenty of good Apple web sites like Think Secret, Apple Insider and PowerPage, I had a hard time finding any with mobile editions or even easily mobilized full RSS feeds. I did find one full feed at TUAW – The Unofficial Apple Weblog that would make a good addition to an Apple fan’s Feedalot, Winksite or Bloglines Mobile subscription. It’s … Continue reading

Go2

Go2 is a site with great potential marred by a clumsy UI and somewhat slow response. Still if you are patient and learn it’s quirks it can be very useful. It’s location based search that since 1999 has worked on any phone. And it’s worked in spite of the mobile providers reluctance to expose their LBS data to mobile web developers or users. Of course, the reason it works is because it relies on the old fashioned method of the … Continue reading

Google Mobile News

Google launched a mobile version of their Google News Tuesday. The neat thing about Google’s new mobile service is that the way it works is not only good for users but also benefits the mobile web as a whole. The full-sized Google News site has been around for three years but only recently moved out of the public beta stage. Unlike most news portals which employ flesh and blood editors to select stories from the various wire services, other sites … Continue reading

Cyclingnews Live – Tour of California

Update 2/22/06: Cyclingnews changed their url for today’s stage!! I updated the url on the Yeswap portal this morning before the stage started, but I can only post to the blog in the evening. I’ll do the same for the rest of the stages, if the url changes again I’ll update the portal ASAP, but this post may not get fixed until later. Last week I wrote about how you can follow Velonews’ live coverage of major cycling races on … Continue reading
