VeloNews Live Mobile

For the last three years I’ve been hosting a page which has links to mobile transcoded versions of Velonews.com‘s live coverage of major cycling events like the Tour de France. While I was following today’s stage transcoded by Skweezer on my phone I saw this : “By the way, if you’re going to be away from you computer and still want to check in on the live action you can point your mobile device browser to our mobile live window … Continue reading

Le Tour de France

Update 6/30/2006: Those of you that are cycling fans already know this, but less than 3 hours after I wrote the words below this year’s Tour de France started to unravel. A doping scandal that had been simmering in Spain for months exploded with 58 professional cyclists under investigation. Among the implicated riders are nine would-be participants in this years Tour including last year’s second, third and fourth place finishers Ivan Basso, Jan Ulrich and Francisco Mancebo. All of the … Continue reading

DW-WORLD

Deutsche Welle or ‘DW’ is Germany’s independent but publicly funded international broadcaster. Somewhat similar to the BBC International Service or the Voice of America, DW broadcasts shortwave radio news, sports and cultural content in 29 languages and satellite TV in four; English, German, Spanish and Arabic. Like the BBC, DW has a comprehensive Internet site, DW-WORLD.DE again in 29 languages. Of course I wouldn’t be witting about DW-WORLD unless they had an interesting mobile web site. The mobile site is … Continue reading

Big Pond World Cup

Another day, another World Cup site. Actually, this is a very good one from Australia’s Big Pond, a major ISP down under which is owned by the Australian telecom giant, Telstra. Big Pond has an attractive mobile home page, http://wap.telstra.com/wap/ although much of the content is links to external sites like CNN, Yahoo, etc. For the World Cup, Big Pond has commissioned Sportall to produce an original mobile site. On the right device, it’s very attractive mobile web design and … Continue reading

Inspired by Martin’s post about the official FIFA World Cup mobile web site, I went looking for other World Cup related mobile content. What follows is a list of what’s out there right now. To help you find these sites on your phone I’ve put up a World Cup page on the yeswap.com mobile portal with links to these sites and will add any more that I see or hear about. For those of you (mostly Americans) who have no … Continue reading

Cycling Live

I’m a big cycling fan. In addition to recreational cycling and commuting by bicycle, I like to follow big-time professional cycling. I’m really thrilled that the Amgen Tour of California is starting from my home town of San Francisco next Sunday. This is a new event on the cycling calendar, a 700 mile, 8 day stage race from San Francisco to Los Angeles. Many of the world’s top teams and riders are expected to participate including George Hincapie, Levi Leipheimer, … Continue reading

More Olympics

I’ve added four more Winter Olympics mobile web pages to the new Sports/Winter Olympics page on the YesWap Portal. Check them out from yeswap.com on your phone. BBC As always, the BBC provides excellent coverage. The WAP1 (wml) site provides a good collection of stories and features illustrated with small 66 px wide gif images. The html site as more stories and the pictures larger (up to 203 px), higher quality .jpeg’s. A Pictures section (html only) has even larger … Continue reading
