Found on the Mobile Web is an occasional WAP Review feature listing newly added and updated sites on the yeswap.com mobile portal and WapReview mobile site directory. With these latest additions the directory and portal now list 967 mobile sites. Entertainment/Music-Nightlife Rolling Stone via Avantgo (avantgo.com/operamini4) My first experience with the web on a hand held device was 7 years ago on a Palm PDA using Avantgo. Opera Mini 4.0 – Better than WebKit?

Opera Mini 4.0 is out of Beta! You can download it by pointing your phone or PC browser at operamini.com. There are no new features in this version compared with the last Beta. What there are is lots of bug fixes and compatibility with more handsets. Compared with Opera Mini, 3.1 though, 4.0 adds a huge list of enhancements; the main ones being OperaLink which synchronizes mobile bookmarks and Speed Dial with desktop Opera, and Desktop Rendering, Opera’s answer to … Continue reading

MobileCamp San Francisco

I attended MobileCamp San Francisco (mobile site) yesterday. What a great event, it was a BarCamp – a user driven un-conference with no spectators, where everyone is a participant. Although BarCamps are user generated events it takes the efforts of dedicated volunteers to pull off an event like this. Thanks Indira, Ritwik, Andy and Alexi, I know you worked your butts off to make MobileCampSF the success it was. Thanks also to Nokia, whose sponsorship provided great food and a … Continue reading

Heysan – Mobile IM

Heysan (heysan.com, mobile m.heysan.com) was another of the startups which demoed at the Mobile 2.0 Event. It’s a mobile web based IM client supporting AIM, MSN and ICQ – with support for GTalk and Yahoo IM “coming soon”. Features include the ability to use multiple services simultaneously, a single buddy list across all services, threaded conversation view and auto refresh. I’m not really much of an IM user but I wanted to get a feel for this service so I … Continue reading

Carnival of the Mobilists #97

The latest Carnival is up at Andreas Constantinou’s Vision Mobile Forum. There are some very interesting items in this Carnival. One of the great things about the Carnival is that sooner or later it covers every aspect of mobile. This time around there’s an analysis of Motorola’s acquiring a stake in UIQ, pieces on getting users to try advanced Mobile 2.0 applications and services, phone color preferences, running desktop widgets on mobile phones!, how Motorola and Sony Erisson don’t “get” … Continue reading

Opera Link, Opera Mini 4 Beta 3 and Opera 9.5

Thursday, Opera Software released new Beta versions of both their desktop browser (9.5) and Opera Mini (4.0 Beta 3) . The company celebrated the releases with a Rock’n Opera party here in San Francisco which I attended thanks to the great folks at Opera. The Beta releases were expected but Opera threw in a surprise new product. It’s called Opera Link and is a way to keep your web surfing activity synchronized across all the browsers you use, on multiple … Continue reading

New Opera Mini 4.0 Beta 3

I got a nice surprise this morning. The new Opera Mini Beta has been released. I had a little trouble getting it installed on my Boost Mobile i855 but I finally got it. I have to head off to work now and from there straight to the Rock Opera party so no review until tomorrow. Bookmark synchronization seems to be the biggest new feature in this release. Download it over the air direct to your phone from mini.opera.com or if … Continue reading
