Unboxing the Nokia N9 Part 1

NokiaConnects (formerly WOMWorld/Nokia) has sent me a Nokia N9 loaner to try out and review. I am very excited about getting a chance to try this rare, limited production  device. I’ve honored it with my first ever un-boxing video which is embedded below. If your wondering about the way the video ends, yes I did eventually figure out how to turn the N9 on. I had to (horrors!) look in the manual, but it’s really very easy. I’m editing another … Continue reading

Opera Mini 6.5 and Opera Mobile 11.5 For Android Hands On

It’s CTIA time and lately that seems to mean mobile browser release time too. Earlier today BitStream launched Bolt 3.0 for Android at CTIA (review).  Now comes word from Opera that both Opera Mini and Opera Mobile for Android have been upgraded. The new Opera Mini is version 6.5 (images above) which is currently only available for Android.  Its most noticible new  feature is a data monitor that shows exactlly how much data you have used and how much your … Continue reading

Bolt 3.0 For Android Now Available To All

Bitstream’s Bolt Browser for Android is out of beta and available in the Android Market. I haven’t been able to find a direct download link (needed for users with non-“Google Experience” devices which don’t have the Android Market). Android 2.1 or latter is required. Although labeled 3.0, this is actually the first public release of Bolt for Android. The latest Bolt for Java and Blackberry is 2.5 hence the 3.0 version. Features of BOLT 3.0 for Android include: Server side compression … Continue reading

Retailer New Look’s Cross Platform Mobile WebApp Delivers 500% Sales Increase!

New Look, a UK based retailer of men and women’s clothing and teen fashions, is reporting a 500% increase in mobile online sales since launching a redesigned mobile site in May. The redesign by Mobile Interactive Group (MIG) employs HTML5 and JavaScript to deliver a rich “app like” experience complete with  zooming and spinning effects in capable browsers. Unlike some recent HTML5 mobile Webapps, this one is not iPhone and Android only.  In fact, MIG’s adaptive design supports over 12,000 different … Continue reading

Funmin – New Cross Platform Mobile Browser Game Site

Funmin is a new mobile online game site featuring a dozen games.  There are puzzle, math and board games including Sudoku and Samegame (mis-labeled as Bejeweled). Funmin calls them Android and iPhone games. I tried the so-called Bejeweled in the Android 1.5 and 2.2 browsers and it worked well in both. So then I tried it in the bada and WebOS browsers and with the Symbian Anna and Opera Mobile 11.1 browsers on my Nokia N8 and it looked good and was playable in all.  I … Continue reading

IntoMobile is Now Mobile Optimized

IntoMobile has long been one of my favorite mobile news blogs. Martin Perez and team do a great job of covering the latest in mobile hardware, software, services and industry news. Their hard work and timely, quality content have made IntoMobile one of the top mobile news sites with over 3.5 million monthly unique visitors, according to Google Analytics. But a mobile version of Intomobile has been a bit of an off and on affair. There was one m.intomobile.com that launched in … Continue reading

Slideshare’s New HTML5 Mobile WebApp Works (Almost) Everywhere, Even In Opera Mini!

This week the popular presentation sharing site SlideShare launched a mobile Webapp.  Which is something I’m really excited about.  If you’re ever clicked a link in Twitter or an email using  your mobile browser or iPad and found yourself on Slideshare’s old non-mobile friendly Flash based site I think you will welcome the change too. According to SlidesShare the new mobile site supports the iPhone, iPad and Android devices. The images above show it running on an HTC Magic phone running … Continue reading
