How to Use IPhone and Android Webapps in the Opera Mobile, N9, Windows Phone and Other Browsers

There are a lot of wiz bang new webapps that use rich graphics, fancy JavaScript effects and HTML5 features like geo-location and local storage. But if you have a BlackBerry, Windows Phone, N900, N9, Symbian or WebOS phone or you’re using Opera Mobile or Firefox Mobile, you probably aren’t seeing them because they are only served to IOS and Android devices Opera Mobile and Firefox Mobile and the browsers on other smartphone platforms are often as poweful or more powerfull than iOS Safari or the … Continue reading

Nokia N9 MeeGo/Harmattan Swipe UI Tips and Tricks

I’m really enjoying my N9 loaner from NokiaConnects. It’s one of the most innovative new phones I’ve used in a long time. The “Swipe” UI is very efficient, there’s obviously been a lot of thought put into making it easy to get things done. Still it is like no other phone before it and users coming from another platform, even Maemo, will need a little time to get up to speed. Thankfully. the learning curve is shallow and after only … Continue reading

N9 Unboxing Part 2 – Power On, Setup and Configuring Wi-Fi

Here’s Part 2 of my Nokia N9 unboxing. This video picks up where Part 1 left off with the phone out of the box but not powered up yet. The Nokia interaction designers have recognized that some of us, including developers and international travelers, will want to use the N9 without … Continue reading

Unboxing the Nokia N9 Part 1

NokiaConnects (formerly WOMWorld/Nokia) has sent me a Nokia N9 loaner to try out and review. I am very excited about getting a chance to try this rare, limited production  device. I’ve honored it with my first ever un-boxing video which is embedded below. If your wondering about the way the video ends, yes I did eventually figure out how to turn the N9 on. I had to (horrors!) look in the manual, but it’s really very easy. I’m editing another … Continue reading

Nokia’s Mobile Site Shows the N9 As Available Now In The US!

I fired up a Nokia N95-3 yesterday to test a mobile site’s compatibility with the old S60 3rd ed FP1 browser and look what came up when I opened the browser (images above). It’s a full screen ad for the N9. I believe that it will appear on any N95-3 where the user hasn’t altered the default homepage. The North American N95-3’s default home page is www.nseries.com/usportal/ which redirects to http://nokian9.12dld.mobi/n9/view.do?name=NOKIAN9, a promotional site for the as yet unreleased N9 MeeGo … Continue reading
