Mobile Social Messaging with Bluepulse

When I last looked at Bluepulse a year and a half ago, it was an Australian company with a Java ME based mobile widget platform. Well that has changed and Bluepulse is now headquartered in Silicon Valley (in YouTube’s old offices!) with a “social messaging” service. What’s that? Bluepulse describes social messaging as “as the love child of a social network and an instant messenger”, combining typical social network features like profiles, chat, friends, groups, photo and video sharing and … Continue reading

The Biggest Mobile Social Network You Never Heard Of.

While many think that web based social networking started with Friendster or Facebook, in fact there are several mobile based social networks that are much older including Peperonity, started in 2000 and TagTag and ItsMy which launched a year later. These sites initially just offered users a way to create a simple mobile web homepage using a menu driven site builder. Over time all three added features like chatrooms, messaging, content sharing, friend lists and guestbooks to became full fledged … Continue reading

JuiceCaster

JuiceCaster is a “social broadcasting” service. It’s an embeddable player you can add to your Facebook, MySpace or Friendster page or to a blog. When you send photos or videos to JuiceCaster by MMS, email or by using a JuiceCaster application they appear in the player on your web page. Content you upload can be flagged as public, private or shared with selected friends. JuiceCaster is free to use except for the mobile application, which is a BREW executable currently … Continue reading

TapTap, Mobilised and :bMarks – Mobile Digg Contenders?

Social Bookmarking with popularity rating – what Digg does – but for mobile web sites is what TapTap, Mobilised and :bMarks are about. There’s a tremendous of interest in the mobile web right now with new mobile sites appearing daily. But discovery is a problem both for mobile users and publishers. There’s a need for a place were users can recommend sites and let the crowd vote to determine which ones are most worthy. TapTap (m.taptap.net/) is from AdMob. I … Continue reading

Tappity = Mobile Del.icio.us?

Tappity is a new mobile social bookmarking site. This is a genre that didn’t exist a year ago and now has at least four players, WapTags (review), Mobleo (review), Mopitopia (review) and now Tappity.com (mobile – mobile.tappity.com). Unlike the other three, with Tappity you do all your tagging from your desktop browser, there is no way to tag or bookmark from the mobile site. I think mobile tagging is an essential feature. I want to be able to tag mobile … Continue reading

Mobleo – Mobile Social Tagging

Social bookmarking using del.icio.us and similar sites is huge on the web and I think it’s about to really take off on the mobile web too. Surfing, bookmarking and sharing your bookmarks doesn’t require intensive keying, so it works as well on the mobile web as it does on the full web. I’d go so far as to say that social bookmarking has the potential to become as become as big as sharing ringtones and photos. A great way to … Continue reading

Bookmarklets for Opera Mini

I’ve discovered something very useful which I think will help mobile social tagging to really take off – Opera Mini Bookmarklets. I’m addicted to bookmarklets, which I use all the time in my web browser. If you haven’t tried them yet, give bookmarklets a whirl. They give you browser toolbar buttons that do all sorts of neat things with the web page you are currently viewing. Like searching Technorati, Bloglines or Google Blogsearch for blog items that refer to the … Continue reading

FunForMobile, a MoSoSo site that doesn’t skimp on the mobile part.

FunForMobile.com is an interesting MoSoSo (mobile social software) site. Like Zedge.net (review) and mobile9.com, it provides a handy way to send ringtones, videos and wallpapers to your phone. With the carriers greedily charging as much as $2.50 for a ringtone which expires in 90 days! sites like FunForMobile should be getting lots of traffic. You upload your content to FunForMobile’s PC site and download it to your phone from their wml WAP site wap.funformobile.com. FunForMobile can also send the content … Continue reading
