Opera Link, Opera Mini 4 Beta 3 and Opera 9.5

Thursday, Opera Software released new Beta versions of both their desktop browser (9.5) and Opera Mini (4.0 Beta 3) . The company celebrated the releases with a Rock’n Opera party here in San Francisco which I attended thanks to the great folks at Opera. The Beta releases were expected but Opera threw in a surprise new product. It’s called Opera Link and is a way to keep your web surfing activity synchronized across all the browsers you use, on multiple … Continue reading

New Opera Mini 4.0 Beta 3

I got a nice surprise this morning. The new Opera Mini Beta has been released. I had a little trouble getting it installed on my Boost Mobile i855 but I finally got it. I have to head off to work now and from there straight to the Rock Opera party so no review until tomorrow. Bookmark synchronization seems to be the biggest new feature in this release. Download it over the air direct to your phone from mini.opera.com or if … Continue reading

Taming Opera Mini 4

I’ve been using the Opera Mini 4 Beta as my primary mobile browser lately. I have no problem putting up with its minor rendering issues and propensity to lose cookies because it loads pages much faster than version 3.1 and is just as stable. One thing I noticed though was that the mobile version of this blog didn’t work very well in Mini 4. Many pages required horizontal scrolling which I absolutely hate. Although I ‘d chosen the “Fit to … Continue reading

Small Gotcha with the New Mini Beta

Opera Mini is the best mobile browser – period. I’ve been using it daily for a year and a half. Even comparing Mini with smartphone browsers like Netfront, Webkit or Opera Mobile, I prefer Mini. It loads pages faster on a slow connection, renders images quickly and beautifully and has an extremely well thought out user interface, Opera released a second beta of the next generation of Opera Mini last week. It launched two new features; custom search and landscape … Continue reading

Opera Mini 4 Beta 2

First impressions of Opera’s latest Mini Beta are mostly positive for me. The new release contains two major new features, landscape mode and multiple, customizable search. There are some nice usability enhancements plus hundreds of bug fixes including a promised permanent fix to Beta 1’s biggest bugs, disappearing cookies and the broken web forms that plagued Beta One on some sites. Landscape mode is the marquee feature for Beta Two. It’s pretty neat, pressing * then # instantly rotates the … Continue reading

Opera Mini 4 Beta

I’ve had a few hours using the beta and I have to say I’m impressed with what Opera’s done. This new version of Opera Mini has the feature set and rendering quality of browsers like Nokia’s Webkit, Opera Mobile 8.65 or Safari on the iPhone and it’s faster too. Unlike those browsers which only run on $500 Smartphones, Opera Mini works on almost any phone including $30 prepaid phones and the “free” phones you get with a contract. There’s been … Continue reading

Opera Mini Dimension is Live

I woke up this morning to find that the Opera Mini 4.0 beta, aka Dimension, has been released. I’ve got to get to my day job so no review yet. I’ll try to post my first impressions tonight. In the meantime, try it yourself, click on the Dimension button in the sidebar to go to the release site for videos, information and downloads. Disclaimer: Opera Software is a sponsor of this site.

Opera Mini’s New Dimension

Opera Software has announced that a major new beta release of the Opera Mini Browser will be launched next Tuesday, June 19th. The new version, code named Dimension, is said to have been rewritten from the ground up and to incorporate at least one revolutionary new feature. You can sign up for the beta at www.operamini.com/beta. Opera Mini is already revolutionary. It has completely transformed the mobile browsing experience particularly on mainstream phones and slow networks. Using nothing more than … Continue reading
