Google continues to roll out new mobile products.  Monday it was Tasks, yesterday Latitude and today we have Google Mobile Book Search at books.google.com/m.  It’s an iPhonesque mobile interface into 1.5 million  public domain books that Google has scanned as part of its Book Search project. I heard about it first  from microflash on Twitter.  There’s an official announcement on the Inside Book Search blog. The new mobile interface lets you search  for and read any of  the 1.5 million … Continue reading

Google Latitude – This is Big!

Last month Google killed four of their mobile services (Jaiku, Notes, Dodgeball and the iPhone and Android specific variants of iGoogle) and I was starting to have doubts about the search and advertising giant’s commitment to mobile. I shouldn’t have doubted, on Monday Google rolled out Tasks for Mobile, and today launched a brand new service, Google Latitude. Latitude adds location tracking to the Google Maps mobile application and to iGoogle on the desktop.  You can track yourself and anyone … Continue reading

New Carnival of the Mobilists

This week’s edition of the best blog carnival and the only one dedicated to mobile topics is at the Mobile Broadband Blog.  Starting off with a photo of a different kind of Carnival, Quebec City’s Winter Carnival, first time host Ram Krishnan has put together a great collection of the best recent mobile related blog posts. I especially enjoyed Ofir Leitner’s “Top 8 rules for mobile entrepreneurs & application developers” which deservedly took Post of the Week honors and also … Continue reading

Japan’s Biggest Mobile Social Network Goes Global

MobaMingle (m.mbmgl.com) is the English version of Mobile Game Town, Japan’s biggest (10 million members) mobile-only social network. It seems to be a pretty literal translation of the Japanese original, both in look and feel and in most of the features. Mobamingle has the usual trappings of other mobile social networks, messaging, groups, blogs, friends and a “wall” but adds only-in-Japan features like anime style avatars and user created mobile novels. One thing missing is the signature element of Mobile … Continue reading
