MSN Mobile Redesign

Microsoft has completely revised their mobile portal. The changes have been in public beta for the last four months and have gone through quite a bit of tweaking during that time. The final result is impressive. Most mobile portal’s start pages are a bunch of links and a search box. Microsoft is putting real content right on the home page. Users see News, Sports and Entertainment headlines with small 50px wide images plus a three day local weather forecast on … Continue reading

101cookbooks

The iPhone has spawned a bunch of new mobile web sites launching as “iPhone Applications”. You can find a big listing of these at iPhoneApplicationList.com. Many need the advanced JavaScript capabilities and 480px wide screen of the iPhone but some like 101cookbooks will work on almost any phone. 101cookbooks is the site of San Francisco photographer, cookbook author and collector of cookbooks, Heidi Swanson. Heidi has a lot more than 101 cookbooks and every few days she publishes a recipe … Continue reading

iLounge

iLounge: (ilounge.com/index.php/mobile) “iLounge is an independent resource for all things iPod, iTunes and beyond” It’s also currently the best source of iPhone information. I’m actually finding much more iPhone stuff on this site than on TUAW and MacRumors. The site is constantly being updated. The mobile edition includes the full content of the news blog and the forums. I’ve added a Technology/Apple folder to yeswap.com for iLounge, TUAW, MacRumors and all the other Apple related mobile web sites I expect … Continue reading

News Alloy – Mobile RSS Reader

News Alloy is a two and a half year old web based RSS feed reader that rivals market leaders Bloglines and Google Reader in features – and it has a mobile web version (pda.newsalloy.com). News Alloy on the PC is very similar to Google Reader. It’s a two column design with the feed list on the left and posts on the right. The default is to show all items from all feeds with most recent ones first, the “River of … Continue reading

First iPhone Reviews

Courtesy of Apple Early reviews of the iPhone are starting to trickle in from the handful of mainstream tech reviewers who have been blessed with review units. Reviews are all rather positive as expected. These reviews do give us a better picture of the phones capabilities. My take: The pluses: Battery life is amazingly good, around 8 hours of talking, browsing or video playback – easily double what other phones of this size and capabilities can muster. How did Apple … Continue reading

Carnival 79 meets Route 79!

Through some magic of serendipity, the 79th edition of the Carnival of the Mobilists is being hosted this week by Jag at his Route 79 blog. It’s a neat blog and a great presentation of the Carnival. There are some very interesting posts in this latest Carnival. Topics range from carrier and vendor business strategy to software reviews, with pieces on mobile video, network technology, the iPhone, 2D Codes and BREW rounding out the mix. Great stuff as usual. And … Continue reading
