FBReader Now Available For Symbian and Harmattan

My favorite eBook reader is now available for Symbian 5th Ed. and later and MeeGo/Harmattan.  It’s FBReader, which I started using around 2005 on a Sharp Zaurus Linux PDA.  FBReader is open source software that runs on just about every Linux based portable platform including Android and Maemo as well as on Linux, Mac OS X and Windows PCs. WordPress.com certainly “gets” mobile. Two years ago the freemium blogging service broke new ground by delivering mobile friendly versions of the 5 Million plus blogs it hosts to all mobile browsers. Opera Mini and Mobile For Symbian Update Fixes Opera Link Freezing

Opera Software has released important bug fix upgrades for the Symbian versions of both Opera Mini 6.5 and Opera Mobile11.5. The updates fixs a bug that caused both browsers to lock up if Opera Link bookmark synchronization was enabled. There are some other fixes including one where deleting pre-installed search engines did not “stick”. No Barcode App? Try ZXing’s Online Decoder

ZXing Decoder Online is a web based bar code decoder from ZXing, an open source project that’s also created Android and mobile Java bar code reader apps and a bar code decoding library. The ZXing webapp lets you decode 1D and 2D bar codes found in images online or images uploaded from your device. The Verge‘s Eye Pleasing Mobile Edition

Former Engadget editor in chief Joshua Topolsky’s new tech news site, The Verge, went live Nov 1st. I’m happy to report that it includes a nicely done mobile version. Based on Vox Media’s proprietary publishing platform, The Verge’s mobile edition has a clean, modern look that I find a lot more inviting than the overly busy desktop variant.
