Sprint Developer Conference – M2M and Meego

I’m at Sprint’s Developer Conference in Santa Clara today. I’m surprised at how large it is. There are 1500 registered attendees and at least half of the (typically morning adverse developers) showed up for the 9:30 AM opening keynote. Sprint is only the third largest US operator, serving 50 million customers or about 17% of total US mobile users and around 1% of the world’s phones. So why did 1500 mobile developers show up for a relatively minor operator’s event, … Continue reading

N8 Tips and Tricks – Using Widgets

US tech blogs have been having a field day panning the new Nokia N8, something I don’t quite understand.  I’ve had my N8 for a couple of weeks now and I’m loving it.  It’s replaced an Android phone as the handset I carry everywhere. Google Reader’s Wii Version Is My Bloglines Mobile Replacement

In this age of Twitter I’m finding I use RSS a lot less than I used to. Most of the bloggers and sites I used to read in my RSS reader are active on Twitter and they always Tweet a link to their latest post. But I still use RSS, particularly to follow web forums and mailing lists. People who post to forums and lists don’t usually tweet about it,  but many forums including the My Opera Forums and Forum … Continue reading

CTIA: Opera’s Jon von Tetzchner on Mobile Advertising and Adobe Flash

I spoke with Opera Software co-founder Jon von Tetzchner at CTIA today. Yesterday Opera announced that it had joined Adobe’s Open Screen Project, which aims to increase the use of Flash on all devices including mobiles.  I asked Jon what the alliance with Adobe would mean for Opera Users. He pointed out that Opera had long supported Flash in its desktop browsers, the Nintendo Wii browser and with Opera Mobile on Windows Mobile. He said that  Open Screen Project membership … Continue reading
