At Mobile 2.0

I’ll be at Mobile 2.0 today and tomorrow.  It looks to be an exciting event and I’ll be covering it here on WapReview.  I won’t be live blogging, as I’ve found I’m pretty bad at it, but will do a wrap up post or two after the event.  If you are attending Mobile 2.0 and want to meet up please use the contact form which I’ll be monitoring all day.

Google Wave Is On Android and the iPhone

I’m on Google Wave now thanks to an invite from the Symbian Guru himself, Ricky Cadden. I haven’t really explored Wave very much yet. I’m kind of discouraged because I only have a couple of Wave contacts and Google doesn’t seem to have given me any invites to share with my friends and WapReview readers. I did discover an undocumented mobile interface to Wave though. It only seems to work on the iPhone and Android devices.  To see it visit … Continue reading

Updated: Mobile Browser Speed Test – Opera Mini 4.2 vs 5 vs Bolt 1.5

Updated: The Google.co.uk speed tests of Opera Mini were run against the mobile version rather than the desktop version as intended. Rerunning against the desktop version of the Google site increased the times recorded for both browsers. Opera Mini 5 went from 2.7 to 6 seconds and Opera Mini 4’s time increased from 2.3 seconds to 3 seconds. The table and graph have been updated with the new values. I’ve run some speed tests on the new Opera Mini 5 … Continue reading

T-Mobile, AT&T and Nokia Data Configurators Gone Missing?

Last week I was trying to help a reader get an unlocked, non-T-Mobile LG phone configured for data and MMS on T-Mobile USA.  This should have been easy, T-Mobile, like almost every mobile operator in the world, has an online data configurator.  It’s a simple web form where you enter your phone number and seconds later a special provisioning message arrives in your phone’s inbox. Open the message, choose “Apply” and your phone is all set up and ready to … Continue reading

Bolt Browser 1.5 Review – Great Rendering, Copy/Paste, But Still a Few Warts

I’ve been using Bolt’s new 1.5 release for a few days now and here are my impressions. In general Bolt works very well on main phone, a Nokia N95-3.  In fact, this is the first version of Bolt that I consider good enough to use as my main browser. Here are my likes and dislikes. Likes: Excellent page rendering.  Most sites look great in Bolt, fonts are particularly attractive, clean looking and readable.  Unlike Opera Mini (image below, left), italic … Continue reading

When I wrote about the mobile aware link shortener and micro-blogging network, Delivr‘s new Ping.fm integration a few weeks ago it only worked in desktop browsers.  No more,  now you can create a Delivr Share URL in your mobile browser and immediately post it on multiple networks using Ping.fm. So what are Delivr and Ping.fm and why would you want to use them? Delivr is a short URL generator that lets you shorten links  and share them on nine different  … Continue reading
