Lodging.mobi

Lodging.mobi is the latest in a number of new mobile hotel search and reservation sites to launch this year. Nice to see this long neglected area of the mobile web finally getting some attention. The site has an inventory of over 75,000 hotels around the world. It uses browser detection and adaptation to deliver page and image sizes optimized for six different classes of device and should be usable on virtually any phone. The user interface is straight forward with … Continue reading

Catch their videos of the line on Oik. Close to 100 people lined up for the 20 Pres that were available at that store. End of An Era: AvantGo Shutting Down

AvantGo was a pioneer in bringing the web to mobile devices. It started out in 1997 as a offline browser for Palm and Windows Mobile. Back in the day I used it extensively to keep my Handspring Visor filled with the latest web content for reading on my long commute on the train. The drill with AvantGo was, first go to AvantGo.com, login and search for the “channels” you wanted to read on your PDA. There were hundreds of channels … Continue reading

Microsoft unveiled their new search engine Bing, last week with considerable fanfare.  Thanks to Google’s Wave announcement the same day it probably didn’t get as much press coverage as it deserved. Bing replaces Live Search and MSN Search.  Initial reviews  have been quite positive. Billed as a “Decision Engine”, Bing on the desktop has some nice touches including auto completion of queries, a list of related searches  in the left sidebar and  infinitely scrolling results rather than pagination for  image … Continue reading
