iLounge

iLounge: (ilounge.com/index.php/mobile) “iLounge is an independent resource for all things iPod, iTunes and beyond” It’s also currently the best source of iPhone information. I’m actually finding much more iPhone stuff on this site than on TUAW and MacRumors. The site is constantly being updated. The mobile edition includes the full content of the news blog and the forums. I’ve added a Technology/Apple folder to yeswap.com for iLounge, TUAW, MacRumors and all the other Apple related mobile web sites I expect … Continue reading

News Alloy – Mobile RSS Reader

News Alloy is a two and a half year old web based RSS feed reader that rivals market leaders Bloglines and Google Reader in features – and it has a mobile web version (pda.newsalloy.com). News Alloy on the PC is very similar to Google Reader. It’s a two column design with the feed list on the left and posts on the right. The default is to show all items from all feeds with most recent ones first, the “River of … Continue reading

Tribes – Mobile Web Channel Surfing

I just discovered Alatto‘s Tribes (gb.tribes.cc/globalen), although it’s been around since at least June, 2005. It’s a bit like a mobile Slashdot but with a wrinkle. Actually, I almost gave up on Tribes when the first thing I saw upon entering the site was a confusing message warning that the site contains “explict” content and that I must be over 18 to view this content and did I agree with the “above conditions“. My first though was “mobile porn site“. … Continue reading

New Skweezer Version

All the buzz about Opera Mini must be frustrating for the 84 million users on US BREW carriers like Verizon, Alltel, US Cellular, Metro PCS or Cricket. Phones on these networks can’t run Java applications like Opera Mini, the amazing free browser that lets you use any website on mainstream phones. Using a mobile transcoder offers a viable alternative to Opera Mini and works on any data enabled phone that has a browser. Transcoders take big web pages designed for … Continue reading

Taptu has launched. The mobile URL is taptu.mobi. You’ve probably heard about it, Vero and the rest of team have been doing a great job of creating buzz. In case you missed the previews by beta testers like Msearchgroove and SymbianGuru, Taptu in a nutshell is a new mobile search engine specializing in music search (songs, lyrics, artists, video and audio clips). Their tagline is “A new kind of search engine for mobile phones which allows you to search and … Continue reading

InfoSpace FindIt

InfoSpace.com is an interesting mobile company. It’s a mobile web pioneer – launching it’s first mobile site – a phone directory search eight years ago. It’s a real survivor too. The company weathered the original Internet bubble, the early failure of WAP and it’s own mismanagement to build a relatively successful business creating mobile sites and back end services for mobile providers. Some of the services InfoSpace provides to carriers include portals, messaging, white label web and directory search services … Continue reading

RTAmobile

Chicago’s Regional Transit Authority (RTA) has a mobile site (www.rtamobile.com) with a trip planner and schedules for all the agencies that operate rail and bus transit in the greater Chicago area. I’ve been to Chicago several times and have been impressed with the city’s public transit system – fast frequent rail service goes almost everywhere and where rail doesn’t go there is good bus service. I had high expectations for RTA’s trip planner. I have to say I was disappointed. … Continue reading

Mobicious

Mobicious (mtagd.com/w) is an innovative new mobile content search portal. You can search for downloadable content of various kinds; ringtones, games and wallpapers and also SMS Services and mobile web sites. Users can review and rate each content item in Mobicious and upload and share images. You can search just a single category like games or tag multiple categories and search them simultaneously. I especially like that searches can be restricted to only free content. Xen Dolev at Xellular Identity … Continue reading
