Daily Gadget Mobile

Daily Gadget a popular blog and forum covering geek toys – including phones, pda’s and the latest PC and mac hardware and software – now has a mobile site. The mobile site appears to have built using phpBB, the popular Open Source forum software with the phbBBlite template. The lite template wasn’t really designed for mobile sites but rather for building low bandwidth web sites. Nonetheless, it works fairly well as a WAP2 site. The main page is 19 KB … Continue reading

The Web’s Big 3 Do Mobile.

In the web world the, according to Alexa, the big three in traffic are Yahoo, Google, and Microsoft’s MSN portal. A lot of this volume comes from search as the same three are the most popular search engines although the order in search is Google, Yahoo and MSN. These three sites are the kings of the Internet at the moment. They all have tons of money to spend on R&D and market research. And they need to spend it so … Continue reading

ESPN

ESPN I’ve noticed from looking at my site’s stats that the majority of my readers are not from the US. In addition, I’m not really much of a sports fan. So why am I writing about a site’s coverage of “American football”? Why is it important? Simply this, sports have a huge fan base. In the US it’s football, in Europe it’s football too, although we call it soccer. In India cricket is a national obsession. I suspect that everywhere … Continue reading

All I want is a good WAP RSS reader.

I want to be able to be able to read RSS feeds on my phone. Feeds are perfect mobile content – mostly text, all meat, none of the stuff like sidebars, headers, frames, navigation bars and popups that make most websites unusable on a phone. There are a number of excellent web based RSS aggregators but I’ve been having a hard time finding a WAP based one that I want to use regularly. The usability just isn’t there for one … Continue reading

YesWap Mobile

YesWap Mobile Disclaimer – this is not a review. YesWap.com is a mobile site I created to showcase what I consider to be the best of the mobile web. It wouldn’t be honest to review my own site but I really want to tell you about it. YesWap appears to be a simple wap portal, nothing but links in a hierarchical menu. The menu structure is exactly the same as that of WapReview.com. So if your browsing WapReview reading the … Continue reading

EuroNews

EuroNews I like to read the news from a variety of sources from around the world. There’s a lot going on that you’ll never hear about if you rely on the limited, superficial international news coverage provided by the US news media. I’m sure the media in every country has a local bias as well. To really have an international perspective on current events, you need to follow a variety of sources worldwide. Fortunately the Internet, including the mobile Internet, … Continue reading

Local TV News on your phone

Local TV News A new mobile site brings together local news pages covering about 50 cites in 42 states. The individual sites combine news from local television stations, weather including radar images from the Weather Channel, local movie listings, national sports and stock quotes. Content varies by city with around 50 cities having local news, weather, sports, stocks and movie listings. Another 50 or so cities have “placeholder” sites with no local news or movie listings – just weather, stocks … Continue reading
