N8 Tips and Tricks – Using Widgets

Bolt 1.7 Adds Widgets, Twitter Integration, Flash Video and Download Manager Enhancements

There were a huge number of major announcements at the Mobile World Congresss (MWC) in Barcelona today.  Somewhat lost in the barrage of press releases was that Bitstream has released Bolt 1.7.  The main things that are new in this release are: The ability to post to  Twitter from within Bolt.  Posts are pre-populated with the current page’s URL and are editable so you can add your own comments to the tweet. Updated: Verizon Woos Developers With Openness

I’ve been watching a live webcast of  the Verizon Developer Community Conference that is being held today in San Jose. The U.S.’s biggest mobile operator is saying that they are through with the walled garden and proprietary platforms.  Developers are being promised that going forward it will be much easier, faster and less costly to get their apps to market on Verizon phones. CTIA: Day One

I’m at CTIA in San Francisco today.  Just attended the keynote and Yahoo press conference. Yahoo made a couple of big announcements at the keynote today. OneConnect is live, only on the iPhone so far, but Java, S60 and Windows Mobile support is coming by year end. The Blueprint widget platform has been extended with runtimes that support creating stand alone mobile applications and mobile websites using the same Blueprint markup language as Yahoo Mobile widgets.
