Opera Mini Friendster Problem Fixed!

Yesterday I wrote about Friendster’s redesigned mobile site. It’s generally pretty good except for one major usability issue. The problem is that Friendster is forcing all mobile browsers to use the mobile site, even “full-web” browsers like Opera Mini and Nokia Webkit which can easily handle the full version of Friendster. Several Opera Mini using Friendster members were upset enough about this to complain on the Opera Mini support forum at MyOpera.com. Today Opera answered their complaints in a rather … Continue reading

The New Friendster Mobile

I covered Friendster’s first mobile site back in December. I wasn’t impressed. I was never able to get it to work on the phone I was using at the time. Plus it required each user to install a widget on their Friendster profile using a PC browser before they could even use the mobile site. Well, it looks like Friendster went back to the drawing board and came up with a completely new mobile site at a new URL, m.friendster.com. … Continue reading

Google I/O Wrapup

Photo by SeanOsteen Some rights reserved. The two days I spent Google I/O were an exciting whirlwind of running from presentation to presentation, and much to my surprise, eating! I didn’t think I’d ever praise the food at a tech conference but as a couple Googlers pointed out, with Google the food is always good. The usual conference fare is a box lunch consisting of a sandwich, apple, bag of chips and cookie. Not for I/O though, Google set up … Continue reading

Anticipating Android at Google I/O

I spent the day at the Google I/O developer’s conference here in San Francisco. What a great event and hugely popular. I attended all the mobile track sessions, three on Android and one on Gears for mobile. The day stared with Vic Gundotra’s keynote. Vince’s message was that Google wants to give developers the tools to build a better web, something Google and developers both stand to benefit from. He mentioned Google’s debt to the Open Source movement and said … Continue reading

New N95-3 Firmware Update is Available.

Nokia released a firmware upgrade, V 20.2.011, for the US model N95 yesterday. I had no problems installing it on my N95. The process took about 30 minutes; 5 minutes to do a backup with PC Suite, about 20 minutes for Nokia Software Update (now part of PC Suite) to flash the new firmware and another 5 minutes to restore the backup. The process was very smooth and confidence inspiring and I had no problems with the actual upgrade. Nokia’s … Continue reading

The Mobile Monday team of Daniel Appelquist, Gregory Gorman, Mike Rowehl, Peter Vesterbacka and Rudy De Waele together with dotopen and ESADE have put together another Mobile 2.0 event, this one to be held in Barcelona on July 4th, 2008.
