Super Carnival of the Mobilists

Photo by encouragement You hear the word “super” a lot in the US this week. An hour ago the professional football Superbowl wrapped up with an upset victory by the New York Giants. This Tuesday is Super Tuesday, when 24 states will hold presidential primary elections. A strong Super Tuesday showing by any of the candidates could assure their nomination. In keeping with the super theme I present for your enjoyment the Super Carnival of the Mobilists #109, 12 posts … Continue reading

Ma.gnolia Goes Mobile

Ma.gnolia.com is a Del.icio.us clone which is to say that it’s a bookmarking site that encourages sharing of bookmarks. There are more similarities than differences between the two sites, both use tags to categorize bookmarks and bookmarks are public by default but can be flagged as private. The main differences I see is that Magnolia has a prettier, more Web 2.0’ish Ajaxy user interface. Ma.gnolia has launched a mobile edition at m.gnolia.com. It allows you to view the most popular … Continue reading

Although my preferred mobile browser is still Opera Mini 4.0, I’ve been using Nokia’s WebKit on my N95 quite a bit lately. Like modern desktop browsers and also Opera Mobile and NetFront, the Nokia browser supports multiple windows or tabbed browsing. For some reason though, Nokia makes … Continue reading

Google Search Rediscovers the Mobile Web

Nadir at SEO Principle tipped me off about Google’s latest redesign of their mobile search page. Appearance wise it’s not a big change but in terms of what it means for the mobile web it’s pretty significant. The last big change to Google mobile search was in March, 2007 when Google removed the radio buttons that allowed you the specify if you wanted to search the Web, Images, Local Listings or the Mobile Web. Google seemed to responding to Yahoo’s … Continue reading

Google has upgraded the YouTube mobile web site (m.youtube.com) to include the entire catalog of millions of YouTube videos. There is also a new YouTube Java application (image) which duplicates the features on the mobile web site but with a slicker user interface. If you have one of the officially supported phones (Nokia 6110, 6120, E65, N73, N95 and Sony Ericsson k800 and w880) there is a link to download the application at the top of the mobile web page. … Continue reading
