The Best eBook Reader Apps For the Nokia N8

The Nokia N8 makes a great book reader thanks to its excellent screen and easy pocket-ability.  Just as the best camera is the one you have with you, the best eBook is the one you have in your pocket.  Dedicated book readers like the Kindle are OK, but unlike a phone, too big to carry everywhere. Unfortunately it’s not easy to find book reading apps for the N8 and other Symbian^3 phones like the C7 and E7.  In fact I … Continue reading

Asri al-Baker at i-Symbian.com has put together a set of  Web Runtime Apps that let you use the iPhone versions of the Gmail, Google Talk, Google Calendar and Google Reader WebApps on Symbian phones. Yahoo Goes Hyper-Local on Android and iOS

Like AOL with Patch, Yahoo is getting into the local news business.  The portal site has launched a Beta of the new Yahoo Local at beta.local.yahoo.com. Unlike Patch, which hires a full time local editor in each community, Yahoo seems to be relying on RSS feeds and individual user contributions for its local news. … Continue reading

New Opera Mini Beta Fixes Symbian^3 Stability Issue

A second beta of  the native Symbian (.sis) version  of Opera Mini 5.1 was released yesterday.  Among other things it fixes two significant bugs from the first Beta. The previous version would crash if you enabled the option to use the Symbian (and Swype) keyboards.  Based on my testing this bug is completely gone.  I been using the new Beta extensively on an N8 for a full day and have experienced no crashes whatsoever The previous version was unable to … Continue reading
