Google’s Big QR Code Push – 100,000 Favorite Places Get Store Front Decals

Yesterday Google did something that should light a fire under the lagging adoption of mobile barcodes in the US.  They are sending window decals featuring a QR code to the 100,000 US businesses that are  most searched using Google.  The decals also have the Google Maps logo and identify the business as a “Favorite Place on Google“. UCWEB Android Version Found!

While poking around on the Chinese language UCWEB site looking for release notes for UCWEB 7.  I discovered an Android version of UCWEB7 Beta 1. I downloaded it to my Google Ion (aka HTC Mgic) and it seems to work pretty well.  It’s rather basic, with only fit-to-width “Adaptive Mode”.  I couldn’t find a way to zoom or vary the text size. Updated: UCWEB 7 Final Released

UCWEB 7 is out of Beta.  The official release is in Chinese only but, Manojr “Mannuforall” Tiwari  has done an unofficial English translation which is available on his blog. A release announcement with screenshots and a list of features (in Chinese) is  here (Google translation). Opera Mini 5 Beta 2 – Does Progressive Loading Speed Up Browsing?

Following up on yesterday’s release of new Opera Mini Beta, the official Opera Mini Blog published a short list of the main enhancements in Beta 2. It includes an explanation of the new “Progressive Loading” feature in this release.
