Microsoft – Yahoo: Bad News For Mobile Search

By now you’ve probably heard about the Microsoft – Yahoo deal. Yahoo will shutter their search engine and instead source search results from Microsoft’s Bing. There are lots of details about advertising revenue share that I won’t bore you with. If you are interested in that sort of thing, Barry Schwartz at Search Engine Land has a good summary. While probably necessary for Yahoo’s survival, I’m worried about the future of my favorite mobile search engine,  Yahoo’s oneSearch. What I … Continue reading

Updated: Verizon Woos Developers With Openness

I’ve been watching a live webcast of  the Verizon Developer Community Conference that is being held today in San Jose. The U.S.’s biggest mobile operator is saying that they are through with the walled garden and proprietary platforms.  Developers are being promised that going forward it will be much easier, faster and less costly to get their apps to market on Verizon phones. Key elements of the new developer initiative include: A new vCast Application Store launching by year end … Continue reading

Updated: Easy Mobile Web Based Contact Sharing

Mobile Share seems like a  simple but potentially handy new service. It lets you create a personal online contact page, a simple mobile formatted web page containing your name and phone number. A link on the page lets you share it by sending the URL in a text message. Another link lets the recipient add your name and number to their phone’s contacts with a single click.  I see this as an alternative to sharing a contacts with Bluetooth. I’d  … Continue reading

m.DrJukka.com – Download Y-Browser, Y-Tasks and More

Dr. Jukka Silvennoinen, aka DrJukka, is a prolific developer of free Symbian smartphone applications for S60 3rd and 5th edition phones. His best known apps are Y-Browser, a powerful file manager and Y-Tasks, a great collection of system utilities that includes a task manager, file association editor, crash monitor and a font viewer/manager. I’ve found both of these programs indispensable on my N95. Neither of them are available in the Ovi Store, unfortunately. You can download Y-Browser and Y-Tasks and … Continue reading

UDR is United Dominion Realty which owns and manages a number of large apartment complexes in U.S. cities. Searches return … Continue reading

OviGaming.mobi Launched

For many years AllAboutSymbian.com’s sister site, All About N-Gage has been the best place to find in-depth, honest reviews of the latest N-Gage games and news about the platform. A couple of months ago All About N-Gage was relaunched as OviGaming. About the time of the re-branding, the mobile version of All About N-Gage more or less stopped working. The front page still loaded but all links led to an error page. I’m sure the mobile site breakage was unintentional … Continue reading
