Bolt Browser Updated to 1.62

The Google  Nexus One phone wasn’t the only mobile product released today. According to a post on the Bolt Forum, “BOLT 1.62 was released today. This is a routine upgrade featuring behind-the-scenes improvements that you probably won’t notice on the surface, but you should still upgrade. You will be prompted to upgrade the next time you launch BOLT.” One reason to upgrade is that until you do, the browser will continue to prompt you to upgrade every time you start … Continue reading

Bolt Browser 1.5 Review – Great Rendering, Copy/Paste, But Still a Few Warts

I’ve been using Bolt’s new 1.5 release for a few days now and here are my impressions. In general Bolt works very well on main phone, a Nokia N95-3.  In fact, this is the first version of Bolt that I consider good enough to use as my main browser. Here are my likes and dislikes. Likes: Excellent page rendering.  Most sites look great in Bolt, fonts are particularly attractive, clean looking and readable.  Unlike Opera Mini (image below, left), italic … Continue reading

Bolt Beta 3 Browser Review

I’ve been using the new release of Bolt (V 1.04, aka Beta 3) for about a day now and I’m quite impressed.  This release represents a significant upgrade.  The new support for bold and italic fonts, file uploading  and copying text from web pages is particularly welcome. Bolt and italic support may seem like a small thing but it makes for a big improvement in the appearance and readability of many sites. Of all the server assisted Java based browsers … Continue reading

MWC09: Bolt Browser – New Version and Open Beta

Update: Feature list for new version added. At Mobile World Congress, Bitstream, Inc. announced that the Bolt Browser is now in public Beta, freely available to anyone without the need for a Beta code. There’s a new version too, 0.86.  I haven’t been able to find release notes or any indication of what’s new in this release.  I suspect it’s a bug fix release with no new features.  Trying 0.86 on my BlackBerry and N95-3 I immediately  noticed one bug … Continue reading
