Update 10/23/05: Found a working wml version at a different url. It's intended for Cingular customers but works for anyone but only Cingular customers who register with their personal information and Cingular phone number can save favorite locations.
Update 12/31/06: Discovered a working xhtml version that is not branded with any specific carrier. Still can't save favorites, however. Update 3/31/2006. Yet another Weather Channel xhtml url. Finally one remembers your location plus this one has maps, radar, pollen counts, surf forecast, tides, airport delays, sun and moon rise and set - pretty much the ultimate mobile weather site.

Includes satellite and radar images as well as current and 15 day forecast for locations worldwide. Users can save their favorite locations. Animated radar maps are centered on the user's location with the ability to pan and zoom

The Weather Underground's new "iPhone" site offers a streamlined touch friendly interface that also works well with the Android, WebOS, Symbian 3rd and 5th edition and Opera Mini and Mobile browsers on devices with screens at least 320px wide..  It's location aware on Android and the iPhone. Site is optimized for advanced mobile browsers that make it easy to scroll through long pages like the iPhone, Palm Blazer, Pocket IE, Opera (including Mini). This site gives you a great deal of information beyond a simple forecast including dew point, barometer, visibility, marine forecast and sun and moon rise and set.

Page size is under 15KB so most mainstream phones will be able to load the page. The low usability rating reflects the excessive scrolling required to reach the most important information - the weather forecast.

Basic Weather Forecast for the next 5 days. Data from The Weather Channel.

Very full featured and well designed weather site. Local weather forecasts for anywhere in the world. Radar Maps, 7 day forecast, marine forecast, fire danger, air quality and almanac information (sunrise, etc.). Supports 12 languages. But doesn't persist your location or language choice.

Australian and international weather information site with satellite images, weather radar, forecast charts and a full range of Australian forecasts and current observations.It's a  "Middle-web" site optimized for the iPhone, Pre and Android but it doesn't require JavaScript and is usable on most devices.

A very well done mobile weather site. It's truly international, claiming to cover 80,000 locations. I was able to bring up detailed forecasts for every city I tried including Havana, Nairobi, Oslo, Chengdu and San Francisco. For each location Forca provides daily and 7 day forecasts and animated GIF maps showing radar and satellite views as well as temperature, precipitation, clouds and wind.

Eurometeo (mobile.eurometeo.com/en/home- is an Italian based weather site with weather forecasts and satellite images for all of Europe as well as Mediterranean tide tables and marine forecasts for Italian waters.

AskMoby (askmoby.com) is a new mobile weather service with a couple of clever features. First when you request a forecast from AskMobi you can pick your planned activity from a list of things like Golf, Walking, Surfing, Sailing or Football. Supposedly the results are supposed to be customised base on your proposed activity. I suspect that this feature isn't quite finished yet as the only difference I could see is that for sailing or surfing, wave and swell data are added to results page which always includes temperature, wind and general condition like Sunny or Rain. The other thing that's fairly unique is that AskMoby gives you hour by hour forecasts for any time, day or night in the next 48 hours. AskMoby also has a slick Ajaxy PC version and an embeddable Widget for your Blog or MySpace page. AskMoby covers European locations only, at least for now.

PAW = PDA Animated Weather. An amazing site from the University of Wisconsin. Over 100 different animated satellite and radar weather maps. The maps are 300 px wide animated gifs and are zoomable and scrollable on devices that support html image maps. Not the most mobile friendly site - you select a map from a huge scrolling list but the maps are gorgeous. How well this site works, if it works at all is highly dependent on your browser. Opera Mini makes a complete mess of this site but my phones built-in Openwave V7 browser does a pretty good job with working animation and scrolling, etc. via a set of links below the maps.
