Pressing the button will make the purchase using a credit card and shipping address you have on file with Amazon.

Buy.com, a big US based general merchandise online retailer, has redesigned its mobile site. The attractive, one size fits all mobile browsers design, lets shoppers browse product categories and sales sections or do a keyword search. For payment, Buy.com accepts mobile friendly Paypal. Amazon.com or Buy.com account holders can also pay using a stored credit card.

Shop or just browse the online retailer from your phone. The entire Overstock.com catalog appears to be available on the mobile site. Registered users can make online mobile purchases.

The youth oriented clothing chain Urban Outfitter's mobile site offers online shopping, a store directory,sharable  "wishlist", company blog and links UO profiles on Facebook, MySpace, YouTube, Twitter and Flickr. Making purchases requires an Urban Outfitters online account which can only be created on the Urban Outfitters desktop site.

After being sued out of existence by the RIAA, the famous Napster peer to peer file sharing service's name and logo passed through a number of hands before being acquired by big box electronics retailer BestBuy. 

Today BestBuy operates Napster Mobile as an online music store where users can search and browse Napster's catalog of 9 million songs, listen to 30 second previews of songs and purchase and download DRM-free MP3's for 99 cents per track. Having a name that invariably seems to make jocks snicker doesn't seem to have hurt Dick's Sporting Goods's business.  The retailer operates 409 brick and mortar stores in the US as well as a an online shopping site at dickssportinggoods.com . Dick's just went mobile with an attractive mobile new site at dsports.mobi. It has an iPhone app like user interface but has modest page sizes and is functional without JavaScript and should be functional on most phones. The use of several fixed width elements do prevent the pages from reflowing to screen width on many devices with screens less than 320px wide screen, however.

Surprisingly there doesn't seem to be any way to actually purchase anything on the site.  There is a web form on each item page with a field for the quantity but no submit or "Add to cart" button  I tried on several different mobile and desktop browsers and was unable to find any way to make a purchase. This is in spite of a press release that clearly says

"The mobile site, which was designed and created by Pittsburgh-based Branding Brand (www.BrandingBrand.com), allows people to browse and purchase a complete selection of sporting goods online."

There's even a $10 off on online purchases coupon on the front page of the mobile site, too bad there is no way to actually use it! Seems like a bit of a fail both execution and marketing. I guses it's useful for price comparison while shoping at competitor's stores. There's a store locator on the mobile site so if Dick's has a better price you can check to see if there is store nearby.

This mobile sile from U.S. drugstore chain, Walgreens lets you order perscription refills and find the nearest store location. 

U.S. travelers are familiar with SkyMall, whose catalog of quirky products lurks in the seat-back pockets of virtually every commercial airliner. But did you know that SkyMall also has Web and mobile Web sites where you can shop the SkyMall catalog without having to board a flight. 

The mobile site offers a large number of products in broad categories like "Sports" and Pet "Products".  There are no sub-categories or search, making the site more useful for casual browsing than finding anything specific.

One thing that SkyMall got right is offering mobile friendly payment options using PayPal,   Google Checkout or a click to call number.. If you are a regular SkyMall customer you can also make purchases using payment information from you stored profile. Mobile site for the U.S. version of QVC, the 24 hour cable TV shopping chanel.  The mobile site has a continuously updated link to the item that's currently being pitched on TV. The site also has descriptions and pictures of items featured in the last 12 hours and items that are new to QVC today,  You can also enter a QVC item number to view any available item.  All items can be purchased online on the mobile site using your QVC account credentials.

Browse and shop the Victoria's Secret catalog of clothing, lingerie and cosmetics or purchase a gift card. Purchasing is by credit card only requires filling out the typical lengthy form which is not very practical using a phone keypad.  At least you can save your information for future use.

Barnes & Nobile bookstore locator and book, music and toy search with online ordering.  You can register you shipping and credit card details in advance on Barnes and Noble's full-web site  to avoid a very tedious order form.  I guess B&N doesn't know about PayPal and Google Checkout's easy mobile payment options. A rather limited mobile site from online and B&M vendor of professional grade video and motion picture equipment, supplies and service, PhotomartUS.

The site lists only about two dozen products from PhotomartUS' huge catalog.  The listed items can be purchased using mobile friendly Google checkout and there is also click to call access to PhotomartUS' telephone order line should you be interested in something that's not listed on the mobile site. Moosejaw: (moosejaw.mobi) is a bricks and mortar and online retailer specializing in outdoor sports gear. Their .mobi site lets you search and browse the catalog to find gear and check prices. Although there's a shopping cart link on the site there doesn't seem to be any way to actually put anything in it!

It's nice to see big brands doing mobile web sites.  However this one from U.S. chain department store JC Penny targeting teen shoppers doesn't impress. Its main features are pictures of a mere two clothing outfits, signup form for text alerts and a bunch of downloadable Greystripe ad-supported games.

Visitors are urged to visit the JCPTeen Facebook profile participate  in a scavenger hunt game  with ringtones, wallpapers and tickets promised as prizes.  However there is no link to the Facebook profile, only a plain text url! Facebook offers a mobile version of the Penny's profile so why on earth isn't this a link?

The site's most useful feature might be it's hard to find store locator. If you want to find the nearest Penny's store, click "Products" then click either of the two featured clothing outfits and scroll to the bottom of the page and enter your zip code.

With no really compelling content, I can't see the average teen being very impressed with Penny's mobile effort.
