GetJar Visual Bookmarks Update

A couple of weeks ago I wrote about Visual Bookmarks from GetJar.com. It’s a free service which creates a tiny application. When the application is launched it opens your mobile web site in the phone’s browser. The neat thing about that is that it puts an icon linking to your site right in the phone’s main menu. On some phones, including S60 3rd edition ones like the N95, Visual Bookmarks can even be added to the idle screen. In the … Continue reading

Priceline.mobi

I like using Priceline.com for booking hotels.   It’s an “opaque” auction site where you bid for a room by minimum star rating, city and district.  You don’t find out the name of the hotel until you submit a wining bid. I’ve found some great deals over the years using Priceline, the LA Omni for $50/night and both the Hyatt Regency and Marriott Pinnacle in Vancouver, BC for $60/night.  Of course you don’t usually get such a good price, but … Continue reading

Phoload – New App Store

Phoload is a new JAVA ME “App Store” along the lines of GetJar.com.  In fact, it’s organized very similarly to GetJar. There’s a full web version (phoload.com) with a categorized, searchable directory of games and applications that can be filtered to only include apps compatible with your device.  Applications and game listings include a screenshot, description and user reviews and ratings. All files can be downloaded to your PC for side loading. Or you can make note of a six … Continue reading

I’m Back

Sorry for the lack of posts lately. Last Monday, what I thought was a mild stomach flu turned into excruciating pain overnight. My wife took me to the emergency room at dawn and I was diagnosed as having a burst appendix. After surgery and four days in the hospital I’m recovering at home and am feeling much better I’m slowly starting to resume normally activities including blogging and responding to a big backlog of emails.

Google’s Disruptive Android Strategy

The first Android phone will be announced by Google and T-Mobile tomorrow, September 23 at 10:30 AM Eastern time in New York City.  The phone itself is the HTC Dream branded as a T-Mobile G1. Beyond that everything about the phone is conjecture.  Most rumors put the device in stores Oct 13 at $199 on a two year contract.    Further rumor mongering  predicts UK and German releases, also on T-Mobile in October or November.  There’s also  the potential of a … Continue reading

Update: 22-Sept-2008: All YesWap.com URLs are be working normally for me on multiple devices and networks.  It’s possible that some users may still be getting errors due to distributed DNS servers around the world caching old values but that should resolve itself within a day or two, This is a notice primarily for users of wml.yeswap.com and htm.yeswap.com The YesWap.com and  yeswap.mobi domains were moved to a new virtual server tonight.  This was necessary because the current server which hosts … Continue reading

T-Mobile’s DevPartner Program Live!

It looks like T-Mobile USA has flipped the switch on their DevParner Community.  The program is designed to streamline the process of getting a mobile application approved and available on the carrier’s soon to launched App Store.   You will need to register as a developer to be able to see the the program’s documents which include detailed requirements for testing and certification and a rate schedule.  Registration is free but if you are a hobbyist or Open Source developer … Continue reading
