How Many Mobile Internets?

I don’t mean “internets” in the sense of the George Bush’s “I hear there’s rumors on the, uh, Internets”. I’m thinking that while there is only one internet, there really are several separate unequal mobile webs. The inequality comes from the huge variation in capabilities of mobile phone browsers. I like to divide mobile browsers into 5 broad categories; full web, big page, advanced embedded, basic embedded and wml-only. At the top are the mobile “full web” browsers like the … Continue reading

WURFL (Wireless Universal Resource File) is the OpenSoure mobile device database that has become the standard for identifying and profiling mobile browsers. There’s a public beta of the next version of Bloglines Mobile up at m.beta.bloglines.com . If you are Bloglines user give it a try. I’m really excited about this. I live in the Opera Mini browser running Bloglines Mobile. If there is a new version of either Opera or Bloglines I’m like a kid in a candy store. Carnival of the Mobilists 93

The Carnival of the Mobilists is one of the longest running and, in my opinion at least, best of the Blog Carnivals. Each week a different mobile Blog hosts the Carnival, a post pointing out and linking to recent blog items on mobile topics. This week’s Carnival is at Tomi Ahonen and Alan Moore’s Communities Dominate Brands. It features interesting posts on Blyk, the gPhone and mobile ads in general, the positive role mobiles are playing in the Burmese sitiuation, … Continue reading

The well-designed mobile layout is by Quatro Wireless which also did wap.stupidvideos.com, covered … Continue reading
